Virginia Shooting Sports Association

Would these folks appreciate out of state memberships? Would they even want us?

Might be a nice show of support in view of their current situation.

Annual membership is just $25.

Here's a link to their web site: https://www.myvssa.org/

They seem legit, but given the situation there, I wonder if it would be better to circle the wagons around the VCDL, who do the heavy lifting on the state's 2A issues.

I had the same thought.

My home state has a direct analog. I'm a member of a grass roots gun rights organization that's patterned after the VCDL. There are (at least) two or three statewide shooting sports organizations in the state. They have done virtually NOTHING to protect our eroding gun rights over the years. It's the VCDL clone organization that has done the heavy lifting, organized the rallies, brought people to the legislative hearings to testify, and filed lawsuits and amicus briefs in major gun rights cases.

It's nice to see organizations that purport to represent shooters of all stripes: "shooters, hunters, sportsmen, collectors and all other law abiding firearms enthusiasts." However, you have to ask what they're actually doing. For years, the ONLY Virginia gun rights organization I have seen mentioned on "gun" forums is the VCDL. If this other group was doing anything worthwhile, I would expect to have encountered at least a few mentions. I haven't ever heard of them before seeing this thread.

FWIW.

VCDL was the other group I was looking at. Second look it seems they may be the better choice.

If you look at their 'join page' there is a link to a membership brochre pdf that explains what they are all about. It looks like they are very pro 2nd Amendment and active.

Now the question is: Anyone a member or from Virginia that can tell us whether we should pony up and help?

I joined VCDL last week. Also sent them a donation. I figure they could use the backing and no, you don’t have to be a resident to join. It would also make somewhat of a statement if their membership role grew exponentially all of the sudden. Least I can do is show my support if I can’t be there.

the VCDL grew out of the NVCDL and were very instrumental in getting Virginia to change from may issue to shall issue. they are the ones to support for gun rights.

I am a VCDL member, and they are leading the way to support our cause here in VA. Thank all of you for your support!
