Time To Go SBR?

I am thinking about having my 9mm RRA CAR-A2 modified into a Short Barreled Rifle but am unsure about the procedure for doing such things to a firearm.

If y'all would like to enlighten me about the process of doing this I would appreciate it.

If y'all know of any companies / gunsmiths that are known for doing this sort of thing well, by all means pass on this info also.

First, you will need to download and complete this form. Then you need to get your CLEO signature on said form. Then you need to download and complete this form. Next, get a $200 check or money order and put it in an envelope with the 2 above forms and these (chose FBI FD-258LE on the right) completed cards. Mail the entire package to the address on the top of the Form 1 and wait a couple weeks and when you get the approved forms back in the mail, you may then convert your rifle to SBR configuration. (maybe this should be a sticky?)

If you just need to have your barrel shortened to do what you want it to do, I suggest using www.ar15barrels.com. They are going to shorten, re-crown and precision thread my 9mm AR barrel as soon as I get my forms back. They have a great reputation for the work they do.

nit picking -

on first link, download and print, back-to-back, Form 1 "App to Make..." - 2 sets!

get two color passport type photos to include with each Form 1

each F1 must be individually signed by CLEO and you

print cards must be submited in pairs

Form 5330.20 is your (self) declaration that you are a US citizen. no cosign needed

mail to below for faster service (they move several months ago)
National Firearms Act Branch
244 Needy Road
Martinsburg, West Virginia 25405

do not possess or by the short bbl until Form 1 approved. owning them even
unassembled is verboten

Woah. You lost me on that last list of acronyms and abbreviations.

What is the 27 CFR 178/9 specification and what does it apply to?
