Wayne scope mount issue
I have warne mounts on a tikka T3X. I got my rifle out to clean the other night and noticed a noise that sounded like a screw lose in the mount. It was driving me nuts so I took the mounts off and found a little metal piece that has two screw holes in it that allow the mounting screws to travel through it. It was bouncing back and forth and making noise every time the rifle was moved. What is this piece for and is it necessary? Would my best remedy be to remove it and remount the scope?

I am thinking the little metal piece is the recoil lug if that helps any of the experienced gunsmiths help me fix this. Any help is appreciated.

Silver??
That is indeed the recoil lug for the ring. Only thing I can think of is that it wasn't seated quite right when the screws were tightened. It's kind of a PITA to get it all back together, especially the first ring. But once on they are usually pretty set.

Take that shiny little sliver of metal and put it in the rings off the gun. You will easily see that the shiny piece can only go in one way and allow the two halves to come together. In other words, there is a distinct orientation for that part. Once you see which way it goes, put it in the correct way and put it back on the gun. You don't need a gunsmith to do this. It only goes one way where it fits correctly and it's easily seen off the gun. Warne rings are made in the USA out of steel. They are considered a premium ring. I just recently took a brand new set of Weaver Grand Slam bases off a new Anschutz rifle because once I put them on there the known good scope would no longer provide enough adjustment to hit POA at fifty yards. These "premium" Weaver rings are made in China. I've used them before with good results, but you don't know who made them in China and this set is junk. It's a Cra* shoot buying Chinese produced products and the Weaver Grand Slams weren't even cheap. I'm not pushing Warnes, but since you already have them just figure out how to assemble them. It's pretty easy. Good luck.

I got them back together relatively easy. Bore sighted the scope th old fashioned way and went out to the farm. Scope adjusted correctly and was able to get the rifle hitting back where I wanted in about five shots. The rattle that I was hearing before is now gone. I used a torque wrench to get the warne screws tight. I think I have the problem remedied.

Yeah, it's all Wayne's fault. Nothing wrong with Warne's. Glad you got it corrected.

Not to worry, been there, done that, boxes of T shirts. As you get older it gets worse so you just quit caring!
Or as my grand dad said, stuff em, I built this county, I can go as slow as I want.
