Who hates their P226/229 elite stainless?
Yeah my point exactly, the answer is nobody. So why can't I ever find one. No lgs will ever seem to have it. Online is never in stock. I would like to see one in person before I buy but don't think that will ever happen.
So hoping you guys with the elite stainless could post some real pics (not sig marketing ones) Thanks. |

I gotta say I never see all steel Sigs minus the 232 in any gunshops, new or used. I have too many guns that I need right now before I get one, which I do plan to one day, but when that time comes ill prob just put an order in and wait the year or so it will take to finally get to me.

Who hates their P226/229 elite stainless?
My local Bass Pro usually has them, as do the Gander Mountains near me. Whenever I stop in at a Cabelas there is a couple as well.
Here are a couple online: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=358070798 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=358233239 http://www.armslist.com/posts/198841...te--s-w-627-pc |

I had a P229 stainless elite and a 220 stainless elite. I loved them both a lot and they shot great. I did actually end up selling them just because they were so dang heavy and I rarely shot them because i rarely carried them.
I don't really have any range-only guns. If it doesn't get carry time, it's probably not going to last in my collection. With that said, definitely worth getting if you can find one and afford it.

Those are gorgeous machines. If I ever get to start buying safe queens, I'm picking one up.

Man I would love a Stainless 226/229. But I will settle for a Nitron or Cerakote(Scorpion)!

P229 Stainless Elite is my second favorite handgun just behind my W. German P226. The only reason for that is I had one failure to eject(stove pipe) with the P229; out of 1000+ rounds that aint bad. Put the same crap ammo into my P226, almost the same round count, no failures.
I had to wait 6 months until someone had them in stock, I guess SIG runs the SE's only 2 or 3 times a year and in very low numbers because of the cost.

These are not the "Elite Stainless".....
mine are older models ...but they look almost the same... http://thefiringline.com/forums/atta...9&d=1345075942 one is a 9mm and one is a .40S&W.....they're both nice guns. They both have the DA/SA trigger system in them / bought them new in box about 6 or 7 yrs ago....with wood grips, they'd almost be a clone of the Elite Stainless, I think. This is my 226 X-Five ( L-1 model with the adjustable trgger in it ) ..in .40S&W ....that I like a lot as well... http://thefiringline.com/forums/atta...4&d=1359744729 ---------- I know Sig is way behind on orders.....but if you really want one / just place an order for it ... ----------- look at the specs online for 226 vs 229 model .....size is really the only difference ....and its minimal....( barrels on 229's are a half inch shorter, etc )..../ depends on which model fits your hands the best.../ I prefer the bigger one, the 226... Sure.....( if you were to close your eyes....had both guns on the counter ( unloaded obviously !! ) .....and picked one up .....and then the other....its hard to tell the model 226 and the 229 apart..../ or at least it is for me...
Its a 1/2" here and there....a little bit of weight.../ but they're both double stack ...exactly the same width ...height is almost identical. The mags I think are different ....with the 229 holding 10, I think / the 226 holding 15 ( in 90mm)... / and I don't like the SRT trigger vs the more typical DA/SA triggers....but all that's personal / depends on what you like... ------------ No, I don't think you're missing anything .../ Sigs models are just confusing, until you really break it down in a notebook or something...and study it. |

My original note on capacity at 10 was in error on the 229 ( that was for .40S&W in the 229 ) ...but Sig website says 12 rd mags in 9mm for the 229 / and either 10 or 15 rd mags in the 226 - and in my state the 226 is 15 rds..../ so that's all I know....
..../ and I realize the SRT trigger is just short reset...but I still don't like it over the standard DA/SA sig triggers...( there is something about the SRT - that tends to trap the meat in my finger..and pinches the daylights out of me ...after a couple of rapid fire shots....and while I realize its my chubby big ole hands that are the problem...)...I just didn't like it.../ and I don't really like the DA part of the DA/SA either ( since I'm really a 1911 guy )...but I deal with it ok.../ Sigs are not my primary guns for carry, competition, etc... Don't get me wrong, I like Sigs a lot ( and I have 5 of them )... ....but I still think their models have gotten to be confusing...and their 21 different variations within the model 226 line ( if you exclude the X-Five's ) and the 12 different variations of the 229 line of guns...are too much to keep track of ( and I'm a gun guy ...!! )..../ but I think a lot of gun mfg's have the same problem - even companies like Wilson Combat..which I love / and are my primary guns for carry and competition... Such as: http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p229.aspx Again to my knowledge all the P229s in 9mm are shipping with the 15rd mags now, at least all the ones I have seen in the Pro Shop and at local stores. Might still be some out there with the 13 rd mags. Quote:

No, I don't think the mag capacity is a mis-print on Sigs own website...
on the standard variation of the 229 model ....the website shows 13 rds for 9mm and it shows 15 rds on the 226 standard variation model / so my hunch is the website is correct. ----------- But the point is, the person that was asking about the differences between the model 226 and 229 ...needs to look at the website ...and then probably go see some guns at his local shop...and see if they're different. |

Notice the description at the top of the "Specification" for the Stainless model E29R-9-SSE (9mm) E29R-40-SSE (.40S&W) The details should describe both caliber variants. However, unlike the standard P229 page there are only 2 capacities listed, not 4. There should be the reduced capacity for 9mm, standard for 9mm, reduced capacity for 40SW, and standard for 40SW. It's a mis-print. Heck I'll call Sig if you like tomorrow.

You can call Sig if you want...the OP might appreciate the info .../ personally, I think a lot of gun mfg's make all kinds of decisions that make no sense to me.
I agree it is odd - that they would have different mags for the model 229 variants.../ but its also odd that they wouldn't make sure their website is up to date. ....?? |

mags
Mag and shipped mag capacity changed on p229 e2/enhanced elite in 9mm a couple of years ago.
My 2010 9mm p229 e2 (non stainless) has the same frame as the p229 40 cal and a new specialized magazine "229-1." I believe the older p229 in 9 had a different frame than same model in 40. I was in a 10 round jurisdiction, so I bought some p229/228 9m 10 round oem sig mags when I got my gun, and had seller send the 15 round oems to my brother out of state. On the ten rounders I was having trouble with failure of slide to lock back after final round about 10% of the time. Two sig reps did not know what it was. Finally I got a sig rep who knew that this is cuased by using older and slightly different p229/228 9mm mags in a post mid year 2010 p229. Sig's site and a LOT of their printed info is in fact a BOTCH for magazines. They still list in some material a lot of mags they discontinued (eg some p239 mags) and sometimes their own reps don't know what frame might be on your model without printing up the "BOM" listing all the parts on your specific gun from their internal database. |

I,v got. 229 (shorty forty) and love it! That said, if you cant find a 226 or 229, try loking at the Stainless Sig 1911. Out of all my Sigs, I shoot the 1911 the most. And love the way it shoots!
