Hello Brickeyee,

The account I was reading about the 16 inch guns claimed it was a matter of very few grains of "powder" used to bring the charge up to weight and causing a lot of pressure as the charge was rammed. I also remember that it took many tries for the charge to be set off in this manner. Your account could be correct also. I only know of it through reading an article.
