To all TFL Members from Wyoming.

Please read the below proposed law and RESPECTIVELY contact your reposentives and senators to express your feelings on this proposed law.
We are all aware of the future of firearm laws, justified or not. Many of us have taken to stockpiling power and primers. If you have experience in the field of Firefighting, and/or EOD, exsplosive training, justify your letters/comments based on your experience and training.

5 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

7 Section 1. W.S. 35-10-301 is amended to read:

9 35-10-301. General regulations.

11 (a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this
12 section, it shall be unlawful for any person or company to
13 store any gunpowder or any other explosive material at a
14 less distance than one thousand (1,000) feet from any house
15 or habitation, when more than fifty (50) pounds are stored
16 at the same place; but it shall be unlawful to place or to

1 keep any powder or other explosive material, in any house
2 or building occupied as a residence, or any outbuilding
3 pertaining thereto.

5 (b) Smokeless propellants intended for personal use
6 in quantities not exceeding twenty (20) pounds may be

8 occupied as a residence or any outbuilding pertaining
9 thereto.

What are Buchanan, Semlek, and Massie's stands on firearms rights in general?

I dont know their personal beliefs, but Wyoming is in general a gun friendly, individual freedom state. I didn't start this tread to discuss or trash any individual, but to point out to our legislators that this law, is a solution to a none-existing problem. Small arms powder is not an explosive hazard, and is a lot less of a fire hazard then many other materials kept in the home, pait and gas being far worse.

I was requesting those with experience in explosives and fire fighting come point out this fact.

I dont want to respond by saying we are stock piling powder for doom and gloom. I'm requesting ligit reasons for storage of powder in excess of what this law would allow.

Wyoming is a rural state, Large cities with sporting good stores are few and far between. Must of us, when we go to these cities stock up on powder. Powder normally coms in 1 or 8 lbs containers. Reloading often requires differant powders for differant calibers, some depending on use requires differant powders for the same caliber. If you reload for several cartridges, it wouldn't take long for you to exceed the 20 or 50 lbs limits. I my self reload for over 25 differant bullets. That dosn't take into account some bullets require differant powders for differant uses.
So we can see the need for the storage excess of what this law would allow.

I'd like to see that in opposing this law, we stay away from the stockpiling for gloom and doom, but for the ligitiment use of small arms powder.

Ok I got a response regarding that bill, its intent WAS TO ALLOW black powder to be store, it got screwed up in dealing with smokeless powder,

Kraig,
Having been a rural/volunteer firefighter for nearly 20 yrs, I can appreciate concerns over accelerants in the home. That being said, two things to consider.
As you stated fuels, paints, thinners, along with compressed gases have to be the largest concern in terms of safety. 20 lbs of powder which can flash but not explode is less of a concern. Heck, most of us have 3-4 cord of wood around the house.
Also, one has to consider the local hardware store much more of a communal hazard than any one persons house. I doubt anyone would try to regulate them.
I don't know if you were in Wy in 1988 when most of the state burned but the oldest hardware store in Buffalo went up in flames and for a time threatened downtown Buff. All of the local firefighters were in the Big Horns. A flight of C-130 slurry bombers out of Gillette turned downtown Buffalo pink. I would have love to seen it.
Keep doing the heads up thing, we don't always pay enough attention to our legislators.
