I have about 150 12 ga. 2 3/4" Winchester AA cases. I plan on using 19.5 grains of Winchester 452AA powder, and Winchester WAA12 wads. Is this all correct, and what primer should I use? I believe the best to use would be a Winchester W209. Is this correct? It does get cold where I shoot. It can be below 20 degrees F. If you can't tell, I am trying to duplicate a Winchester AA shell very closely. Thanks!!

The best thing to do is to download the Winchester Reloading Manual in Adobe (.pdf) format. Here is the website:
http://www.winchester.com/reloader/index.html This will help you with future reloads, but since 452AA is a discontinued powder, I perused an old reloading manual which had Winchester reloading data in it. Mind you, this information is 10 years old, and uses the old lead crusher method of measuring pressures, so it may no longer be reliable. You are on your own with these data. A Win AA case with 19.5gr 452AA, 1 1/8 oz. shot, Win 209 primer, and Win WAA12 wad will yield a velocity of 1145 fps., and generate 9,400 lup. This load is noted as duplicating the ballistics level of the factory Winchester 2 3/4 dram eq. AA plus Target Load. Using the same components, but increasing the powder charge to 20.5 gr. 452AA yields a velocity of 1200 fps., and a pressure of 10,100 lup. This load is noted as duplicating the ballistics level of the factory Winchester 3 dram eq. AA plus Target Load. You may wish to contact Winchester by e-mail to see if these data are still recommended. Hope this helps, Walt |

I'm thinking about getting into reloading to support my skeet habit. I was in the gun shop today looking at components to try to figure out what the cost of a reloaded box would be. Can anyone share what the cost of duplicating the Win. AA shotshells is for them?

I load a box of AA's for about half the cost of a store-bought box. At max it would be $3. My dad and I have already saved about $130 and have only been loading for 3 weeks.

My personal favorite for the AA(12ga.)is: 1 1/8 oz. shot, Hodgdon Clays powder(very clean),WAA12 wad and W209 primer. I have my Hornaday Apex set up just for this load. Sorry, I cant help on the load in question.
