Cable Lock

anyone have guidance on using a cable lock for a shotgun? since this is my first firearm i dont want to damage it and i havent seen a good explanation anywhere. I know it's supposed to run through the chamber but it's not clear to me what the best way is. My gun is Beretta AL391 URIKA2. Thanks.

This will keep the bolt from fully going in to battery.

i just want to figure out how to string it through. i havent seen instructions for a shotgun anywhere and I dont want to damage it because of my ignorance.

I depends on what gun you have. Some models only have a single port at the bottom of the receiver ued for both loading new shells and ejecting spent shells. An example is the one pictured above in which case you simply run the cable in one port and out the other. You may have to push the shell elevator up out of the way, as in the case of a Reminton 870 pump. Of course you have to have the forend racked back so as to open the ejection port.

If you have one with a single port, such as an Ithaca 37, I don't believe a cable lock will work.

These are pumps. I have only shot semis a few times, but think the cable lock on most will work similar on a two port gun if you lock the bolt back.

If you're concerned about damaging the elevator mechanism, you can always remove the barrel and run the cable out the front hole.

Ahhh yes great idea. I will be storing it in a break down case anyway, so I will run the cable through the action and out the front. Thank you sir!

last week i took one of my older 870's out of the safe for shooting.. long story short i forgot to remove the cable lock (yes some of my rifles have locks even know their in the safe already)... anyhow didnt have my keys with me, but i was able to cut that cable with a set of linemen plires with little effort... would suggest a trigger lock... gun vault also makes one that goes into the reciever that work well.... just my 2 cents

i'm actually doing both. i know it's overkill but my wife is very uncomfortable having the gun in the house, so overkill is okay.
