fire forming
load it like you would for a standard 223, shoot it. it is now fire formed. you need standard pressures to do the forming. the brass will expand to fill the chamber. if you use a real light load it may not expand all the way. there is no need to push the issue with a hot load. that can be dangerous let alone the extra wear on the gun and brass.

Always use regular loads to fireform the brass in an improved chamber. You may blow out a few shoulders, depending on the brass.

If it was me I would go buy some new brass. and load it up with cheap bullets and bang away. I presume you have 223 ackley improved dies?

so, I will go shoot some generic remington 223 through and while I am at it try to sight a scope in at the same time, so this blasting has some other use than jsut fire forming.

No. Fireforming is not the time to sight in a scope. Make sure the load you are shooting is within the normal pressure range of the round you are fireforming. You don't need a target, you just need a safe backstop. All you are doing is fireforming. The bullets, primers and powder are sacrifices for the fireforming of the brass. Do you have AI .223 dies?

My opinion is different than some , I dont shoot a .223 ackley . I do shoot the 6 and 7 tcu cartridges that are based on a .223 and treat fire forming just like target shoting . I get pretty good groups fireforming and the practice for the basics wont hurt anybody . I wouldnt try zeroing a scope while fireforming and then going hunting with the finished loads , You could use fireforming to make sure you are on paper though.
