If it is a 30-30 you want than go with a Henry my experience their action is smoother, if it is a different caliber you want like a .357, or 44 mag , or 45-70 check chiappa if money is not an issue go with Pedersoli for about $50 more but the action on Pedersoli is butter compared to chiappa.

I have had several interactions with Henry and all have been very satisfactory. I like the side loaders, but it would be very difficult for me to choose a Rem-lin over a Henry given my previous interactions with them.

Then there is the whole Long-ranger lever actuated bolt rifle thing. I'd really like them to chamber that in a few more calibers.

Some anticipated new stuff coming from Henry that should make some people quite happy.

Without careful examination and shooting, I'd favor the Henry over the Marlin due to the hard chrome and cartridge dump without using the action. I understand that they also have a good guarantee.

Care to give any hints? I’m always looking for another reason to buy a Henry!

I can give you a few.
Henry is planning on expanding the case coloring to more models.
Henry is planning on offering some new chamberings, and moving some current limited chamberings into other models.

No interest in a .30/30.........but I have wanted a .35 Remington for a long time.

If I did gravitate towards the .30/30, I could use the brass and transform it into 7-30 Waters for use in my T/C Contender.

My LGS has the Rem-lin's and Henry in .44 Magnum which I like because one of my hunting handguns is a Ruger Super Blackhawk.

Thanks!

I’m take it or leave on the case coloring, but new chamberings gets my attention. I know it’s not super practical or as likely to be as popular as other choices but I’d love for Henry to put out a 10mm model. I’d have a lot of fun with that. But I’m straying from the topic at hand now.

I don't have any solid info, but I have asked for a few things and received hints they are in the pipeline and I think quite a few would be very happy. I believe the .223 delays set-back their R&D on a few other items.

I checked in on emailing Anthony the other day and his contact is unavailable at the moment. I keep checking in from time to time.

A much-mentioned gripe about the Henry centerfires will be addressed.
And some long-range options.

My nephew recently purchased a Mossberg 464 in 30-30 featuring a 16 inch barrel. Fit & finish are exceptionally well executed and accuracy is stellar, too. Scope is Simmons Pro Hunter with 2-7X settings.

While i don't own a lever gun, yet. To me if you have the funds it's a no brainer... Henry every time.

Something in a 45 Colt for me.

Lots of used Marlins out there.. I can't recall the last used Henry i'd seen.

Side gate????? Could it be???

Would I be correct to assume that a brass reciever wouldn't have the strength to support a side gate? I guess I've always assumed that's why they went that route.

I can say no more than stay tuned in the next few months.
Imperato is aggressively expanding his company's line-up.

If Henry makes a side gate .357, I WILL be buying one. I REALLY like his business model and think he is a great man. I just don't have any use for a front tube loaded levergun.

Now if Marlin would EVER re-release their 1894 in .357 again, as they've been rumored to be doing for years now, that would be a tougher choice but so long as Henry keeps it's great quality I'll go with them. Marlin frankly pisses me off with all that's happened with them recently and even current ones seem to have problems.

You'll see the .357 Model 1894 shortly before the Model 444 returns.

...Which, as of the latest BS excuses from Marlington, appears to be business as usual and ... never.

Yeah I don't doubt it.

That's fine, hopefully that big change for Henry will in fact be a loading gate. Maybe Mr. Imperato has finally got a few too many complaint emails about his tube loading system?

We can only hope. Again, if .357 is on the menu for a gate, I'll GLADLY help them drink Remlins milkshake!

Marlin is still working on the .357.
If they can pull off what they're planning for the caliber, and the quality's there, you'll see some seriously happy campers.

Though I love my 1895 GBL 45-70. I may go with a Henery big boy for the 44 Mag Carbean.

Hmmmmmm... Picked up my .357 big boy last year. Thatd be my luck. If they do make a side load I may have to add another to my collection.

My grandson has a Henry in .44 M and it has one of the smoothest actions I have handled in a lever action.
I had a Browning BL44 and that was a nice rifle with a very smooth action. I have shot shot Marlins, older ones, and they are pretty slick, but the Henry is great.

I have more levers than any action type (well, maybe not the Stevens Favorites & Crackshots that always folow me home!), and each has its quirks. They are like your children (and to me, also like your grandchildren), with always something to really like, and sometimes to make you fo "Hmmmmmmm".

I have Henrys (5), Marlins (2), Winchesters (3), Rossi (1) Browning (1), that I can recall at the moment. My wish? To see a lever with buttery smooth action, satin walnut stock, no checkering, steel butt plate, really deep, shiny bluing on everything, but the color case hardened receiver, wide buckhorn sights. Loading? Either method is fine for me, but if tube, please make sure the tube folower as crisp lock-up (early eighties, seem to remember the rimfire Marlin or Winchester was way too loose, and prone to falling off - I corrected with squeezing the notch tighter).
