You guys need to watch more television. During the two world wars people died when something blew up fifty feet away. Just last month I saw chuck norris swallow a hand grenade and belch out smoke.

We aren't all chuck norris, but it's obvious from internet discussion and television that nothing short of artillery can keep a good man down now.

There may be advantages to the .22 in certain circumstances, like if you had to scrounge up ammo in a crisis or were worried about lugging around a lot of rounds. In most cases though, I'm still gonna pick .32acp. I've shot a lot of water bottles, soda cans, apples, etc. with both of these from various pistols. The .32 just inspires a lot more confidence, in a choice between only these two.

Now this is worth considering if we aren't forced between two choices. Take it a step further though. At least for me, if I can fit a .380 in my pocket, I can usually fit an LCR. That means .38 special, .327 federal, or .357 magnum (if I feel up for a beating). Heck, they also come in .22 WMR and 9mm. All of those are arguably better options.

Lots of better options, but the question asked was between the .22 and the .32, and it seems most favor the .32 in that situation. For self defense, I would also.

For a general sport/utility pistol, .22LR, hands down.

While some .32 autos are as big as some .380s, and some .380s are smaller than some .32s- You can't make a .380 as small as you can a .32 if the guns are minimal.
And you can't make a .32 as small as a .25.

Minimal .380s are unpleasant to shoot, and can malfunction easily from a loose grip.

Too bad the .45s that were issued did nothing to improve the situation.

Look it up.

The Seecamp .380 is exactly the same size as the .32acp Seecamp. How they did it is amazing! And the Seecamp is about as minimal as you can go.

Actually, I have a NAA .32 Guardian that is a hair smaller than my Beretta 950BS, so there are exceptions. It does recoil a bit more.

.32 ACP beyond a shadow of a doubt.

It's basically a .22lr, fired from a rifle, with the added benefit of being a larger caliber bullet. It'd be the bare minimum if you had a choice, in my opinion.

I figured my remark would be over some of your heads...
I said if the guns are minimal.
Show me a .32 or a .380 that is the same size as a Browning .25.

As far as an NAA Guardian being smaller than a 950- it's certainly not thinner, and it weighs about twice as much as the 950.

To be nit-picky, you compared minimal .380 to .32, you didn't say anything about minimal .25s, though that may be what you meant. And you are correct that the Baby Browning is certainly smaller than any .32.

However, the Beretta 950 is on the smaller end of the .25 spectrum, and the Guardian is a bit smaller but a bit heavier:

Length/ Height/ Grip width/ Slide Width/ Weight

NAA 4.4"/ 3.3"/ .877"/ .795"/ 13.9 oz

950 4.7"/ 3.4"/ .97"/ .774"/ 9.8 oz

Both are pretty dang small. The Guardian has a marginally better cartridge and can be carried without a manual safety applied, the Beretta is easier to shoot with its SA trigger and minimal recoil.

A baby Browning .25 weighs 9.5 oz. A Kel-Tec P32 weighs only 6.6 oz. I’ll take the .32 over the .25 or a .22 handgun every time.

Agreed, JMag1. Though if I already had the .25, that might be a compelling reason. But for someone to go and buy a .25 or .22lr pocket pistol for self-defense, knowing there are far better options in similar size, is very foolish IMO.

Now as a fun gun, things like that, sure. Because that use doesn't require any justification.

I recently posted a video on caliber effectiveness in the general discussion section.

According to their data(and I'm sure there's data out there to argue otherwise) but the .32acp, .25, and .22 rimfire all fail at the same rate.

If that's the case, I'll take a .22 so I don't have to buy a .32

I'll check it out, but I honestly kind of doubt that...

Its a weird thing to wrap your head around because we've always been told center fire fails less. But they seem to have SOME data to back it up.

Let's see... 32 ACP has a bullet that weighs about 50% more than .22 LR, the diameter is about 50% larger and the velocity is about the same. In some instances the reliability of 22 can match the reliability of the 32.

I'll agree that I wouldn't want to get shot with a .22, but given the choice between the 2 I'd choose the .32.

Nothing below 380 for me...

But center fire is more reliable usually, but I never had issue with higher quality 22lr either.

Small 380s are readily available now.

they also hurt the hands that fire them for a lot of folks.... that's why the used market is flooded with them. some women, men and elderly or people with hand issues see a cute little gun in a "better" caliber, then shoot it and return it for something else...
