I PM'ed Achilles109 but have yet to hear back from him. I'm a little bit doubtful--first post and all.
And to oldcabin--I have at least one of almost all of the others: High Standard, Downsizer, DoubleTap, etc. I have been buying but only found the elusive Numbers 400-22 about five years ago owned by a friend of the Numbers family, who did not want to sell it. Interestingly, the photos he sent were also of "101".

Sorry, it doesn't alert me when there is a PM. I will point out that poster #33 doesn't provide a pic like I have. My 70+year old friend knew Jody Numbers himself. What do you want me to prove? I can put you into contact with Steve if you like and he can tell you the whole story.

We always want the whole story!
I'm not in the market to buy if it is over $500. Under $500 and I would probably 'just because.' |

I see photos of two different 400s, one with serial number 101 and two tone, one with serial number 001 and all stainless....

Achilles109 -- thanks for your response. It would be great to communicate with your friend. Does he have email? He can reach me at [[email protected]] or you can reach me there as well.
As far as the serial # question, I was wrong. The photos Nathan sent me were of #101 which he claimed was the only one that was fully assembled and in operating condition. Yours is # 001 which is, of course, different.

Wow. Not to drift too far off-topic, but . . . I don't think I've ever seen an 8 year old thread grow legs like this one and have the original OP show up to participate.
I ordinarily kill necro-threads, but I'm going to let this one live.

Been over a month...
...and I still haven't heard back from him. But it's just as well--January 8th I crashed my Ford Escape and have been trying to save my right leg from the doctor with the bone saw. All my funds are going towards medical expenses right now.

Numbers 400-22 Derringer
Will try to post illustrations of the CAD drawing when I have time and the files up. Thanks for saving the thread on this little gun.

Been looking for this for 24 years... Ultra-thin Model 400-22 Derringer
Not sure the effectiveness of a sub-mouse gun. Think it would only make an attacker angrier on his charge because he would be very close before you would use it. There are small, more powerful mouse guns like Ruger's LCP .380. At least it would be as concealable but with more oomph. Yet, since you've been looking for one so long, it does make a nice conversation piece.

I don't think jamstutz cares about how "effective" it is or how well it stacks up to an LCP. Everytime someone starts a thread posing interest in a Derringer here comes the letters L........C........P. ugh

An LCP would be better for defensive usage, this is true. But such a compact derringer could possibly be effective in certain tactical scenarios requiring ultimate deep concealment when threat level and risk assessment countermeasures are factored in by the operator.

Some folk post many pictures, beautiful pictures seemingly without effort.
I post maybe two or three a year and wind up tearing what's left of my hair each time. I'm forced to go back to the directions here each time and relearn everything. https://thefiringline.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=292842 Evidence shows it can be done so don't let my experience sour your. Good luck. |
