Nightmare Scenario: Berserk Cop

Happening in Dover, NJ even as we speak.

You're in your cellar cleaning your RPGs and listening to the radio, when you hear a report that a cop has gone berserk and killed his neighbors and his police chief less than a mile from your house.

What now?

A few minutes later, you notice a figure in riot gear hiding behind the corner of a building near your house.

What now?

Logic indicates that the figure in riot gear might be:

a) the mad cop
b) a sane cop waiting for the mad cop
c) somebody else

Whichever the case, I would first make sure that everything was locked up and that the wife and kids were out of the line of fire. Then I would get a hold of a loaded gun (if I wasn't carrying one already). Then I would call 911 to report what I had just seen (cell phone, in case the wires had been cut). Finally, I would assume the most effective deterrent position in the house while waiting for the worst, all the time listening to the radio for updates.

Well, now that it's all over we only have one thing to worry about: copycat cops.

I heard this is the second time something like this has happened in NJ this year.

Beware LEOs who become CEOs (as in crime enforcement officers).

Shadowy figure could be One of the GOOD GUYS, the Rogue Cop, or person(s) of unknown intent and loyalty.

My response:
Doors and windows are already secured.
Send loved ones to the basement, armed appropriately.
Lock-n-Load if not already at Personal Defcon 1.
Give a buzz to 9-1-1.

Talk about a nightmare! If this were to happening my town, I'd know the guy, in fact he would be a friend. (we're small enough here that I know all the other officers personally and have a friendship with each)

Also, I'd be called upon to go stop him. Who else is gonna do it? I may even be his supervisor... But that would mean leaving my family at home while I go search for a nutbag who knows who and where they are and can assume they will be alone since I'll be coming for him! Instead, I think they'll head out of town in the car at top speed with an escort of other officers (undoubltably a caravan of officer's families in tow) - They can call me from a motel phone later tonight.

I'll worry about what to do when we find him later, but I'll be loaded for bear. The end solution is pretty obvious, he has to be stopped...

Fact number 1 you are IN NEW JERSEY!

You have no rights here! your best bet is to hide in your basement with your family and call 911 and hope you survive till they get there. (ok its not quite that bad but lets see you try explaining to the police why you had to shoot another police officer in NJ. Not me they way they twist things here you would end up charged for the firat murders he commited! as an accessory after the fact! Nazi Jersey thank god I am outa here!
