M77 MKII All-weather in .270Win

I looked and looked to find one in .270 Winchester and stumbled across one on a weeklong work trip. Some divorcee put her ex's up for sale the day before I walked into the store. Snatched it up. First two shots out of here were half over lapped at 100yrds. Had a ****ty scope on it and had the guy with a spotter sitting next to me tell me where I was hitting, he was quite impressed as the next three shots were within a nickle of the first two. The bullet placement was about 5 inches to the right of point of aim though. So I threw the scope way and got another one. From one box of shells, she now routinely shoots two groups that can be covered by a dime and the other two are almost always under an inch. I invariably flinch or do something to throw a shot. All this is if the wind is good though. Couldn't have gotten more lucky with the rifle.

inserts

does anybody know where to find replacements for the inserts in the skeleton stock. I have wanted for years to change the color on mine. Factory came with black inserts since have went to green inserts that my dad had on his .243

A friend of mine had one with the skeleton stock in a 7.62X39. I really liked it. I don't know what the accuracy was with it on paper, but it was plenty accurate on hogs. I used it several times hog hunting and shot several hogs out to about 150 yds. I thought it was a real neat gun and I tried to buy it off him several times with no luck. I've never been able to find one since for sale in that caliber.

I like it. I don't really think it saves much weight though compared to say the SPS and VTR stocks on remingtons they feel the same weight when held one in each hand (rifle/action removed of course). It is slimmer though for sure.

The zytel seems to be wearing very easily, or at least the finish is. I don't know if I got some sort of solvent on it that it doesnt like or what. Dont mind though, its not exactly a safe queen.

As far as the stock, try a little armour all, just a little now!

Since I originally posted, I stocked up and bought a 223 and a 243 with the skeleton stocks. Seem like a good value to me. AND I took care of the XBOLT by buying one in 243 also. I am in the process of scope mounting on that one.
