I just picked up A Ruger American Predator in 223. 22" barrel, 4X12X44 mm scope, comes with a 10 round magazine and will accept AR-15 magazines from Buds Gun Shop a package deal with the scope.

I bought a Ruger American chambered in 5.56 not to long ago, mainly out of curiosity and to experiment with loading rounds high for caliber slugs. Ruger was under $500, and the twist is 1:8, which is fast enough for slugs up to 72 grains. The only things I did to it was to tune the trigger a tad and add an inexpensive scope.

So far, I like it. Short and light, and I like the fact that I can use M4 magazines. Still working on loads, but so far I can equal or better 1 MOA up to 300 yards, so long as the wind isn’t screaming.

To start with I have a 223 Bolt Gun that is way to nice/expensive to haul around in the Vertical gun rack on my Roxor (CJ Jeep Clone). I also have an AR15 in 223, but the M-Loc Handguard is hard on the rubber on my Gun Rack.

I was looking for an inexpensive, reasonably accurate 223 Rifle to haul around in the Jeep. I have owned a few Ruger Americans, and they have all shot well. I really did not want an AR15 Magazine in this rifle, so I decided to look further.

What I ended up with was a new Savage Axis II with a Green Stock, chambered in 223. This rifle has a 1/9 twist barrel, and should shoot the Hornady 60 grain V-Max bullets well. I happen to own a few of these bullets left over from a 15" Encore with a custom barrel that I traded off.

I was doing a trade on the rifle, and what I was trading was worth more than the Savage Axis II, so I worked a Vortex 3-9 Diamondback with the Dead Hold BDC and a set of Warne Vertical Split Rings in on the deal. This ended up being a fairly nice package.

The Savage Axis II has a flush removable magazine. The magazine release is a Push Button on the front of the magazine. The magazine body is steel, and looks to be a pretty well thought out magazine. I like the flush magazine design, this being a haul around gun for my Jeep I will be shooting off sand bags on the hood.

Between the Missouri Deer Season, and being busy I have not finished setting this rifle up. Today would be a very good day to get the scope perfectly aligned, and to get it ready to shoot. I so far like this rifle a lot. Now to see how it will shoot. Reports are that they shoot just fine.

I just bought a Gen II Ruger American Ranch in 5.56. 2x7 Leupold to scope it. A short lightweight light recoil bolt rifle will be very nice to have around the place. The Gen II rifles have several improvements. Much smoother bolt, 3 position tang safety that locks bolt when wanted. Fluted barrel to drop some weight. Threaded barrel with rotary comp from the factory. 1 in 8 twist will stabilize basically everything. Adjustable comb and length of pull. Factory cerakote. And unlike others, I do like the idea of AR mags.
They're cheap, they're everywhere and they work. What's not to like?

I'm a dyed in the wool bolt rifle man. It started that way and it hasn't changed all that much. In my 73 years here, I've had one semi-auto .22 and one pump 30-06. Both of which are long gone. I got my fill of M16 when I was USMC. Never had an AR, never will, just don't care for them.

I'm also a Ruger guy through and through. Of the rifles and handguns in my safe, 5 are Rugers, one is S&W and one is Walther. There are also 6 shotguns. I'm a gun user, not a collector by any means.

I recently bought a Savage 110 Trail Hunter. I also wanted a 223 bolt and had never owned a Savage, so I gave it try. I really like the way this gun shoots, and I'm now a fan of the accu trigger.
