"Why would anyone assume that you need a 'weapon of war' as a civilian? The facts are that none of us are going to need a weapon for an armed attack"

I wonder if COSteve has a crystal ball or reads tea leaves?

I really like my Beretta ARX-100. A modern, reliable piston driven rifle with a lot of good features, and it's currently available at a very good price. It was within the top 4 in the carbine trials before the program was canceled.

If they would actually release the blackout barrel (which they already have ) for purchase I would be happier still.

So many options
Sig 550 series
FNC
Steyr AUG if you like a bull pups
Or the galil ACE
For me it would be between the ACE and the SIG 550/pe90

VZ-2008--Century's VZ58 clone w/out the chrome barrel.

It's kind of the SKS big brother. Very simple and robust.

Oops, it's not 5.56, it's 7.62AK.... There is a 5.56 VZ58 variant. I don't have that though.
