I hate stupid people...

Anybody have someone damage your gun and not even say sorry? My 682E Beretta was sitting in the rack while I waited to start a round of skeet... A guy with another O/U, hit it while he stuck his in the same rack, scratched both barrels in 4 places and put two scratches in the forend metal... I did not even get a sorry out of the POS... I couldn't even talk I was so

you had every reason to do what slugo said. he was probably sighing a big relief as he exited w/no appeal.

PS- sorry to hear about that BS

what happened after? did you say anything to him? as non-confrontational as i am, i would've at least protested, perhaps even making a big fuss about it.

Was the rack in disrepair? If so it may have contrbiuted to the problem but the guy could at least have apoligized.

I didn't want any kind of confrontation with firearms in close proximity.. Guy seemed like a clueless douche...

It was actually one of the better racks near the office...

Yeah, I would have put the whoa in his step and told him we were gettin' it taken care of right then and there... No excuse for causing hundreds in damage and not expect to have to "make it right"...

If I wasn't left satisfied, he better never let me see him rack his gun!

A skeet gun should be used. Scratches are signs of use.

Negative, Ghostrider...
Wear is the sign of a well loved useful life...

Scratches are either a sign of a hard life as a tool in unpredictable woods etc... or they are signs of avoidable happenstance or outright abuse...

On a skeet gun, that would be the latter except on the new "Extreme 5-Stand/Skeet/Sporting Clays" fields where you have to belly crawl thru hog tunnels and wade the beaver pond with 3 "hazards" of barbed wire fence to cross between stations...

The very first day I had my new 28 gauge P-gun out an older gentleman put a very large ding in the stock while the gun was in the rack. I saw it happen. He didn't say a word to me and giving him the benefit of the doubt he might not even have known what he did. Sure I was fuming but having a confrontation with the old gent wasn't going to solve the problem. A few months later when I need some adjustments made to the stock the offending scar was fixed and now the stock looks like new again. Life's too short and accidents happen.

Maybe

Would a gun sock help with protecting expensive shotguns at the club when racking them?

Get an estimate on what the cost would be to repair and next time you see him apporach him with it. At the very least this guy has got to be taught that his behavior is unacceptable.

The guy should at least have apologized, but was your Beretta damaged in gun rack that was itself falling apart? The rack on Trap field 2 where we both shoot is falling apart.

Too late now,,,

If I were at a range and someone came up to me and said,,,
"Last time you were here you did $??.00 of damage to my shotgun."

They would get more or less ignored.

You should have said something then,,,
No matter what the circumstance at the time.

You have sorta forfeited your right to seek reparation for damages.

Let's not confuse stupidity with clumsiness…
I was at the other end in a similar situation. I have a bad back, and it went out just as I was putting my gun in the rack between rounds. I knocked my P-gun and a teammate's K-gun to the deck. It blemished the stocks of both guns. They both had JS Air Cushion stocks on them. And, as luck would have it, Joe Shiozaki (JS) was at the shoot. After the last event I took the guns to him and had him put fixing both guns on my bill. I didn't see a more viable option.

If the scratches came from me... It would not be an issue... Scratches caused by a careless person or careless idiot are another mater...

If the damage lowered the monetary value of the gun (which it probably did) he would have gotten a summons to small claims court. Stupid should hurt.

thing is, its your item of property, you have the responsibility to keep it safe. so why were you simply sitting back drinking your coffee while you watched the guy do the damage. you shoulda been up right next to your gun the whole time.

Seriously, if its as expensive and important as you say it is, why use the common peeple rack, and not take a range cart of your own, or at least a padded case for it, so no dumb dumb things happen to it?

Actually, the worst damage I've seen on a Skeet field has happened at Station 7. More than once I've seen broken-off-the-arm low bird chunks bloody-up shooters and ding guns. Long ago I adopted a Station 7 stance that places me as far from the window as is legal. And, it's not unknown for a newby to catch a clay in the back of the head while advancing from Station 7 to 8 -- that will really ruin your day.
