Need help identifying correct type of bolt for 1968 Win 70 300 mag

I have a Winchester Model 70, 300 win mag, serial #892XXX (no letter prefix) manufactured in 1968 that is missing the complete bolt and safety assembly. In looking for a replacement, I'm trying to identify if it is a "push-feed, anti-bind" type or something else.

According to another forum, all the Post 64 guns carried a "G" s/n prefix at near 874,000. The Blue Book of Gun Values does not show a letter prefix until 1969 after serial number 925908. This was also the time the "Anti-Bind" bolt was initiated. This new bolt used a lip on the lower edge of the RH locking lug. The lip rode under a part of the receiver rail that helped prevent bolt binding.

My gun does not have a letter prefix and I'm not sure how to identify the feature indicated above. Any help would be appreciated.

To identify your M-70 contact Winchester for shipping instructions because the bolt will need to be factory fitted to assure proper head space.

Or, you'll need a local gunsmith that can check and reset the headspace. The reason is that headspace in a bolt-action is unique to that particular bolt. Yes, you can get lucky and find a replacement bolt that headspaces the same but that isn't something you want to risk.

Sorry to break the news, Gunnery Sergeant, but Winchester is no longer in business. Nope. Dead and gone.

Heads up, gunny:

I was told by the parts manager at the "fn" plant in south carolina, that the browning division of "fn" corporation was still making winchesters & also the parts. Check with browning & see what they can do to assist with the parts you need.
