.357 lead-free hunting ammo

I want to use .357 to go after hogs here in Kalifornia, because I have a revolver/lever-action combo in that caliber. I realize the limitations of the round for this application, but feel that if I keep the range under 100 yards and do my part, it will be adequate.

Hunting in most areas is restricted to lead-free bullets due to California Condors. Whatever. The only lead-free load in .357 I can find uses 125 gr. HP Barnes DPX copper bullets. They seem rather light for hunting.

I think the CorBon DPX is a beautiful load, but I am concerned about penetration. Has anyone else had this problem?

Barnes also makes a 140 gr XPB solid copper bullet.

Got to love how the restrict the one thing that in all likelihood ISN'T killing the condors. There is absolutely no evidence that condors get very much of their total food from hunter-shot animals in the first place.

Rant aside, your best bet would of course be the 140 grain loads

Thanks for the info on the 140 gr. bullets. They seem like a better solution. I don't reload, so I need to find cartridges. I see Federal loads them. Let's see if I can find them in stock somewhere to get them sent before the mail-order ban kicks in. Happy New Year, Arnold!

I use the Barnes XPB in 500mag and 460mag.... they shoot excellent... top of the line for price tags round here too tho.

I've used the all copper Barnes in 9mm, 40, and 44 mag and they all work very well. But they are not the same as jacketed so don't compare weight.
