For my 357 rifle I use the same ammo that I use in my BH I have a rossi lever. That way I do not have to have different ammo of the same cart. for two different guns that way I can just take the ammo and take what ever gun.i also do the same with my 44.Same ammo for hand gun and rifle.

I get right at 1800fps with 16-17gr of h110 with a speer 148gr? bullet out of 20" barrel. I got an increase of 700fps over my snubbie with the same round.
Well of course you do. A snubbie BBL. is usually only 1.5 inches. Most of the powder gases blow past the bullet before it gets up to speed. Most of the velocity is generated in a 6 inch barrel.

I also have the 45 colt M-92, identical to the .357. However I don't have a 45 colt revolver. It was a lot cheaper to simply get a .357 rifle, than to get a 45 colt revolver. I'd like a 44 mag Rossi to pair up with my SBH. Maybe if I win the lotto?

I have a Rossi Model 92 in 357 mag and a Ruger GP100 with the 4 inch barrel. I fire the same ammo through both.

I bought my boy a Ruger 77/357 for his first deer gun here in Indiana. I have loaded everything you can imagine for this rifle and the best loads to date have been a Sierra JSP 158gr bullet with 15.7gr of H110 and a small pistol mag primer. 50yds it will do 5 shots @ 1" or less and at 100 yds it does 5 shots in 1 1/2" - 2" . Everyone told me to try Alliant 2400 for my 357 and my 44 Mag rifles and I have tried it and many others but H110 is king in my pistol caliber rifles.

'Like from a 6.5 Ruger GP-100 to a Rossi levergun, same ammo same day. 13.5 2400, home cast 168 SWC (Lyman), GP-100 av. vel,1468
Rossi lever, av. 1742 fps.

Not even an 200 fps increase. From a 20 inch barrel!"

1742-1468=?

Typo! Meant to say not even 300 fps gain, 274 to be exact. I'll go back , edit it.

This was my two guns, the goal was to have a matched caliber rifle/handgun that I could carry the same ammo for both. Very common back in the old days. Those boolits just happened to also be coated with harbor freight red powder coat. They were quite accurate @ 25 yards, I love it when a plan comes together.
To quote myself, this could be a good thing for a survival situation OR a SHTF scenario. Less to worry about when packing to travel light, but have both a rifle and sidearm for most situations. IF you want a handgun cartridge.

Skeeter Skelton had a pouch that contained several hundred primers, enough powder to match the primers, enough lead and a mold to cast bullets, and a Lyman tong tool to assemble those .357 mag rounds. IIRC he started out with loaded ammo, if he ran low on loaded ammo, he could cast over the campfire, and load some more rounds to keep going. His choice for a bullet mold was the Lyman 358156 which is a 155 SWCGC. His loaded ammo had gas checks, but the campfire bullets would be loaded without the GC.

A bunch here has said the same as I did, BUT do both guns perform with good accuracy with that same ammo? It just happened that in my case the ammo worked in both with good accuracy,,-- for my 68 Y.O. eyes and iron sights.

Awhile back loaded up some Speer 170 grain gold dot soft points for 16 inch Marlin. Very good accuracy/velocity with lil-gun, but never shot any animals with em, or heard of anyone who has. Haven't seen any for sale for quite some time now.
