Dick's Sporting Goods as a possible source for ammunition

Based on a tip from a friend I stopped by my local Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday.

After Dick's loudly and publicly gave up on selling guns a while back (great timing!) I'd given up on it as a supplier for, well, pretty much everything.

Well, turns out that Dick's still has (at least at my local) some ammunition in stock. I don't know if it is left over from a few years ago, or if they still deal in ammuntion, but they had a not-terrible selection of rifle ammunition at pre-current-panic pricing.

From memory they had some boxes of 30-06, 30-30, 270, 243, 22-250, 300 Win Mag, 6.5 Creedmore, and 17 HMR.

They also had some 20 gauge buckshot, .410 Winchester PDX and a few boxes of 12 gauge #5 shotshells.

No handgun ammunition, no 12 ga slugs and no 12 ga buckshot at my local.

Shelf was a bit hard to find, taking up half of one side of a shelving unit near the now-abandoned and not-yet-repurposed firearms area.

I always thought that the .17 hmr caliber was a popular round among rimfire shooters but from what I have seen during the last two shortages we had and are experiencing now I am thinking I was wrong. The 17 hmr is the only ammo I have physically seen on the shelves in all sporting good store and they have no limits.

the 2 Dicks stores in my area, have completely gotten rid of guns, ammo, and even bows and arrows.

something about kayaking and other less "violent sports" are the new norm now.

when i got home after going to the second Dicks store? i shredded my rewards card.

I gave the local Dick's a try yesterday, they had a miniscule selection of 12 ga ammo, and less than a dozen rifles and shotguns total on the rack.

Oh well, ammoseek is working pretty good for those in need and I'm well stocked up.

Not the first time, not the last time we'll go through this.

I won't step foot in Dicks. There is a business called Sportsman's Warehouse that I like. They even offer classes like reloading and fly fishing.

Our local Field and Stream (Dicks owned) went belly up when Dicks went all in on gun control.

Sportsman's warehouse bought the location and I've been a regular there. They have a pretty extensive reloading section.

Why would anyone here shop at Dick's?

Will never use them again. If you want a big store, go with Sportsmans' Warehouse

Don't forget Scheels

+1 on Sportsman's Warehouse, but if you luckily have one nearby, don't forget Scheels. Great store, great help; at least the one I go to.

Quite a few yrs ago I ended at at a Scheels in Montana. Really nice store for those of you lucky enough to live nearby.

They had a glass cage full of Coopers. I didnt know much about Coopers but
notice they were about $1800.
