I'm not saying there are not any better choices, but you can't go wrong with the Smith and Wesson SD9VE/SD40VE.
I have the SD9VE (9x19mm version) and I haven't had one issue with it even with cheap ammo.

Accuracy isn't amazing out of the 4-inch barrel and the trigger is heavy to some at around 8 or 9 lbs. but I think for the price, $340-380 (in my area) is a bargain
Definitely a great choice that mirrors a Glock in many respects (in fact weren't there lawsuits when S&W released that model)? And quite a bit less expensive...Not a Glock I'm just sayin'...

My Ruger P95 is nice, but a bit large for my hands. That was made worse by adding the Hogue hand-all, but it really has a nice feel to it with the cover.

The double-action pull is long, but the single action pull is crisp. Very similar feel to the S&W 6906. The 6906 has a mag safety, the P95 doesn't.

If cash out of pocket is an issue the P95 is worth a look, or if a local range rents, they probably have one you could try. Worth looking into for all of them....

dont know how many before me said it but one more time

Sig Sauer SP 2022
amazing gun
best price
full size
did I mention its an amazing gun?

you can get it in 9mm or 40 for the price you are looking for

the only thing you may change a THOUSAND rounds later is the guide rod, its polymer stock, you may want to go stainless

@PT-92

your right. S&W had to fork over some money to Glock for copying the design, but the lawsuit was over the SD-VE's predecessor, the sigma, which was made well before.

I have a bunch of guns that would make this list. All were $400 or less, some a lot less:

Beretta 92FS, used 98%, $400 with 3 factory and 2 GI mags, in the case with all the paperwork, etc.
S&W 5906, used 98%, 3 factory mags, $325.
Tanfoglio "Mossad" (Same gun as early EAA Witness) in satin nickel, 90+%, one factory mag $320.
EAA Witness, same gun as above, different name, almost in 100%, 2 mags, $325, seller had all kinds of problems with it. I cleaned away the hunk of case stuck under the extractor, and it runs fine.
Astra A-100, eats anything, 98+%, with three mags, $269. "Rust" was actually some kind of polishing compound that came off with CLP.

My picks would be the 5906 or the 92FS, but all these guns are as reliable as a gun can possibly be (Yes, even the Astra), and none of them have any "limp wristing" nonsense as several of the guns I've had over the years have had.

It's thin pickings out there right now, but I just recently picked up an Arcus 98DAC and it definitely should be on the list of ones to consider. I found one for $260 out the door and it's a solid gun.

I think they are a "hidden-gem." I have one and it has become one of my favorite 9mm's (feels just like a Hi Power balance wise).

Your price was mint-used I am assuming? NIB I have never seen less than $317 (before the panic).

Today my dad bought a Springfield XD 9mm and I fell in love with it, and I want a handgun of my own similar to it. I am looking at spending around 300-400. Any feedback is welcome, Thanks!
Sig 2022, hands down.

I have a Ruger P95 9mm that cost me $300 out the door brand new. I have over 10k rounds through it and it's never jammed. That was 4 years ago I think. I imagine you can find them for a similar price today, maybe a little more. I've always kept it immaculate but I've never replaced any springs or anything.

Despite me having more powerful, accurate, and aesthetically pleasing pistols today, I still shoot that P95 like a champ and it "feels right" in my hand, and it never misses a lick. I've even shot several hundred rounds of really hot +p+ ammo through it and it's been no worse for wear, have shot thousands since then.

You know, I was at an LGS recently and they had a bunch of the German surplus Sig P-6's in stock in really nice shape. I believe they were priced at $425. With a couple spring swaps it would be a really nice carry pistol.
