7.62x39, possible chamber issues ...

Hi All,

I managed to pick up a new Saiga just after the ban. Have about 150 rds. thru so far; all 124 gr. Tulamo FMJ. I had some brass-cased ammo w/ me at the range yesterday (also 124 gr. fmj) so I ran a few rounds of that at the end of the day.

I'm seeing a strange bulge in the neck of the fired cases. Just wondering if anyone has an idea of what might cause this. Could I have a chamber issue?

The top round is unfired, middle is a case from my 7.62x39, piston AR build, bottom case is from the Saiga.

Thanks in advance!

Forgogt to mention these are reloads, if that makes a difference. .310" FMJ pulls over 23.2 gr. IMR-4198; OAL is 2.150"

Thanks!

So, this is normal? Rifle shoots fine; just thought this was odd.

Yes, it's normal for the Saiga. Russian bureaucracy, so they can tell the difference in crimes committed with a civilian sold rifle or a military built one.
You can also reload the brass ok.

It will iron out when you resize the cases.

That's quite interesting; just Saigas or Molots and VEPRs too, I
wonder ...

Resizing die takes it out, no problem.

Thanks for the help!

I think that is right. They are, I think, the only rifles made in the Russian Izhmash factory that can legally be imported in the US.
