Please comment on my casting concerns

I just loaded my first cast bullets on 44 remington magnum rounds.

I used a Lee 429 diameter mold. I coated the bullets with Alox and loaded them without any sizing which obviously wasn't necessary.

My question is: Since these are my very first cast lead bullets, Can I safely fire these rounds? Any other comments would be appreciated.

I size mine... but.. you should be able to shoot them without worry.

There is no reason you should not be able to shoot them. I'd start with a light load.

Loads

The powder is 231 varying from 5.5 to 6.2 grains. Does this change any of the issiues regarding safety? Please respond.

Might want to pick up a reloading manual. It has all the information you need for reloading.

That's a very light load in such a big case. You should be fine. However, do not depend on the fact the mold is named .429 to tell you what size your bullets are. The casting temperature expands the mold, changing the diameter. Different alloys shrink different amounts on cooling, too, so you can still have a few thousandths difference in your actual result. Buy a micrometer to check actual diameter.

Meanwhile, if the loaded rounds fit in the cylinder chamber OK and aren't swollen too fat to fit by the size of the bullets, you should be OK.

Plaz - why start another thread on this when you have unanswered questions in your previous thread: http://thefiringline.com/forums/show...=413164&page=2

Why didn't you resize the cases? Why do you say it "obviously wasn't necessary"? You had the bullets "slipping" in the cases in the other thread.

Guys, Plaz has been told repeatedly to get a manual and do some reading. He'd rather come here to ask questions than do some studying.

Not to defend..nor to start another fuss...but..I have been loading for nearly a year now and still dont have a manual..Done plenty of reading on the net tho... and..I DO size all my cast bullets..no matter how good I think my mold/lead is. Simple reason... uniformity, plain and simple.
