Fair price with Winchester 1897 Trench Gun

My next door neighbor, a retired Boston cop, brought over his excellent plus condition Winchester 1897 Trench Gun last night. He says he purchased it from the department in the 70s. It has no police markings or military markings that I could find. He says he forgot about it until I showed him my Ithaca DS Police Special. I don't know when it was made, but it looks brand new. And he's willing to part with it. What's a fair price for a Winchester Trench Gun without police or military markings?

looking on gunbroker, I saw prices ranging from 400 to over 1400 depending on condition, markings, etc
