Video - bullet casting
I know this is pretty basic stuff to this crowd, but I hope someone will get some useful info out of it.

Great Video. Just wondering how my bullets do you get out of that 10 pound pot? Or maybe a better question would be how many can you get out of a pound of lead?
Looking foward to part 2. Robb |

The amount that you would get from a pound of alloy would be determined by the grain bullet that you are casting. Divide 7000 (grains in one pound) by the grain bullet you are casting to get the number of bullets yielded per pound of alloy.
If you are really interested in casting, here is a useful link.... http://www.castboolits.gunloads.com/index.php |

I cast bullets, but I watched the video and you did a great job. It is a must watch for everyone that shoots in any quantity.
I cast bullets for .38/.357, .45acp, .44mag and .45lc that I also use for .454 Casull. We will shoot a little over 5k rounds total of all of the listed calibers in 2011(about the same amount as we did in 2010) for a total cost of under $275.00. I love it, we shoot all we want and the cost really never enters into it. Last edited by shootniron; April 17, 2011 at 10:12 PM. |

Very nice video Duelist! I recently started loading lead bullets and was blown away by how much the prices just went up again. Might be an option in the future if I can find a free source of lead. I see people selling ingots for .85 a pound, so the free stuff may already be compromised.

NICE!
Mike, that's very well done! Photography is sharp and well lighted. Good primer of the basics and how easy it really is.
Only one problem though, you forgot to tell everybody how addictive it is, and how you'll never be satisfied with that small set-up! Looking forward to part 2!

Thanks Snuffy,
I'm working on part 2 now. These are companion videos to a pair of pieces I'm writing for my reloading column in Combat Handguns. I decided to also do a video on boosting the volume by using a 20 lb bottom pour furnace and a pair of six-cavity molds, but I probably won't get to it for awhile. I don't think CH will want a column on it. So I'll have higher priority projects to get done first. |

Also maybe a video on how to check your barrel size for casting your own lead bullets.

Or, in the case of revolvers, checking your chamber throat size, because that is the critical dimension.
