Finally took the plunge...

After having so much fun shooting ELD with my .338LM and after trying out a couple big rifles in the last three weeks, I finally took the plunge...

It's a custom .50BMG on a Barnard action and trigger, nestled inside a Macmillan Big-Mac stock. It has a Lilja match barrel finished at 34" with an ATRS big brake. I will be adding a Versa-Pod and some glass later on.

Damn, this calibre is expensive! I'm getting a new press and have to "up-size" all of my tools. It looks like I won't be firing it this year though. I want an ATACR and a Spuhr mount, and that will take some time to save for. And the reloading bench will need some reorganizing through out the winter months. I hope to be doing preliminary load testing next spring. And hopefully shooting well beyond the mile. And, I need to find a hard case big enough.

.....and....it's only my kids inheritance ...lol

That is a thing of beauty...so compact. I would not be able to resist some rounds down range, even as is!!

Well, looks from the picture can be deceiving. It's 61" long and weighs in at 46 pounds with no glass. (And it is brand new with only two test rounds fired.)

Wow!! Yes that is deceiving my RPR is 10.7 pounds naked and that feels tank like. Congrats, that should be a fun project to accessorize and load for.

Don't ever fire that thing without ear protection.
They are fantastically loud even with ear protection
if it is like the one I was next to, when out at the
range a couple trips back.

The concussion was just massive, I could not believe it.

I know a guy that went deaf from one shot once with
375 H&H that had a muzzle brake on it. One shot
and permanently lost hearing in one ear for life.
The other ear he gradually regained over a few days
about 20% of his hearing.

He learned to lip read, and does not use a hearing
aid.

He also had the muzzle brake removed from his
375 and still used it after the hearing loss.

Yeah, the concussion is enormous. And I never shoot without at least 30db of protection.

More like a double back flip into a cannon ball from 50 feet up!
Very nice looking rifle!

We will need a range report once you get glass and have it up and running.

Hell I have not shot my 7mm Remington Magnum in several years as I get older and the shoulder does not have the beef it once did.

Enjoy it and find someplace to shoot a mile. May it bring you many years of happy and enjoyable shooting.

Yeah, I think I'll screw on a couple of sling swivels and head out.

I would recommend at least one axle and two wheels. Would it take a class three hitch to tow it?

Have fun, I'm jealous. Afraid the closest I come is having a press that will accept the dies,
