Thanks laytonj1 . the serial number was lacking the j in it and another link someone posted suggested older than that . But I am by no means an expert . The condition is "good" . Has wear on the cylinder and barrel . Not too bad . Would it decrease the value anymore by having it reblued ?

Dating a S&W
I just picked up a Smith model 10-5. I am having trouble dating it. The serial reads D136575. Any help would be appreciated. Also, what reference is used to date these?

S&W Highway Patrolman
Hello, first time poster here. I am looking at a S&W Highway Patrolman, Model 28-2, serial number V952543. It is blue with a 6" barrel & is in very good condition. I am interested in a value & manufacture date. Thanks!

S&W .44 Magnum
A dear friend of ours just passed and his widow discovered what appears to be
a stainless S&W .44 Mag with an 8" barrel, in a box and we are trying to find out more details. She sent me a photo and it is marked S for stainless and, on the crane, is the model # 629-1, which I believe makes it around 1979ish and just above that is the serial # AEAXXXX. If anyone would be so kind as to enlighten us further and also give us an approx value, we would deeply appreciate it. I am, amongst other things, a semi-auto and a "Glock guy" but this is one nice firearm and, subject to SWMBO's approval, I am sorely tempted ! Last edited by philbytx; October 2, 2018 at 11:17 AM. |

Scored a 686-5 Plus, CDB2xxx. I think that would date to 1998 or 1999.
Thanks! |

Questions...
I've been following the site for awhile and finally decided to join...I was recently given the opportunity to acquire a 586 no-dash for a reasonable cost. I was told it was made sometime in the 80's but the previous owner couldn't pin it down any more than that. The serial number is ACH02xx. Can anyone provide any info about this gun? It also didn't come with a box or anything. Is there anywhere to get replacement boxes, preferably a replica of the original one that came with the gun (label/sticker, all paperwork and extras, etc.)? Thanks.

Thanks. I want the box because my gun didn't come with one. As for the label, I don't really care if the box has one, but I would like the box to have all the accessories. Haven't found one on any auction sites.

Scored a 25-7 Unfluted yesterday, BDS6xxx, product code 100924. I know there was a run of 2000 of this specific product code, some 25-7 and 25-9, but I can't figure out when it was made. Like many of the 45 caliber N frames, it is marked Model of 1989, however I've seen some sources listing them as made in 1987 and some in 1989.
Thanks! |
