Just scored another 686-5 7 shot, this time in 4". CDC6xxx I think this would also be 1999. Thanks!

Hello,
What would the info (date/model) concerning a S&W-like revolver with s/n 1108XX be? (no letter in front of the s/n) The s/n is engraved on the bottom side of the handle Unfortunately it has NO other stamps/marks etc. This is what leads me to the idea that it could be a "clone" manufactured under license (like the ones produced in Spain or France) From photos I have seen sent to me by the collector it is identical to the pre WWI M&P model. (maybe a 2nd change mod. 1905?) Here are some pics. Thanks, Last edited by KframeSW38; January 9, 2017 at 08:19 AM. |

KframeSW38,
The complete lack of markings does make it suspect. Although, I suppose they could have been polished off during a refinish. Hard to tell from the pics. There were no licensed clones. Assuming it is a S&W and chambered in 38 Special, the serial number would make it a .38 Military & Police model of 1905, 2nd Change. SN's ran from 73251 in 1906 to 146899 in 1909. If it's not a S&W then all this means nothing. Jim |

Thanks for the reply!
It IS indeed a S&W as I managed to trace what is left grom the logo engraved, after blueing the gun. Is there any possibility to know the caliber from the s/n? There is nothing else (left) engraved on the revolver. I am not sure if it is a .38 or a .32-20......................... |

If it's a 32/20 it would be a .32 Hand Ejector model of 1903, 5th Change. Serial numbers ran from 102501 in 1910 to 263000 in 1917. BTW, a 32/20 would have a substantially larger hole at the back of the cylinder vs. the front. Jim |

Lew Horton 66-3
I have a lew horton 66-3. The serial number starts with PCP. Any clues on it's age, and value? It's 8/10 with aftermarket walnut grips.
Thanks! |

Thanks Jim
That's about what I figured on the price. Wasn't sure on the year, but knew it was somewhere in there.
The gun is in real good condition, especially considering it's age. It was used, but not much. No papers or box, unfortunately. |

Some help!
Hey folks!
My name is Marcus and I’m from Brazil. My grandfather left these guns for my uncle around 40 years ago. Now, my uncle is giving me them. My Grandfather use to tell that he bought the first of them (We don’t know which one) around 1930. So, the problem is, I was not able to find the serial number and I can’t check them easily (Because having a gun is illegal in Brazil and they have to be stored in our farm – as we just have a farmer’s license). I was wondering if anyone could help-me to identify these guns? I would be really happy if someone could tell me just the model they are and which period they were possibly made. Thank You! |

Marcus,
Assuming they are chambered in the same caliber as the pics are numbered (two 38's and a 22). The 22 is a K22 target masterpiece made after WWII. Both 38's are 38 military & police models made before WWII, with one of them being a scarce target model. I would need the serial numbers to date them and to narrow down the exact model variations for the 38's. Jim |

Jim, thank you very much! This means a lot to my uncle and me! I’ll be able to take their serial number and post here in more or less 2 weeks. Once again, thank you!

Hi All,
I am from Finland and this is my first post in here. I am writing because I have trying to find my first .22lr Smith&Wesson and have been dreamed of 4" 617. Unfortunately those are almost impossible to find in Finland at the moment. I really want to have it in stainless and now I find one mod 63 from auction sale. I know it is not the same than 617 but could be OK for my use (keeping it with me when hunting). Before deciding what would be my limit for buying it I would like to know own little bit more of it. Could someone please help me with the year when it is manufactured? The serial number is AYP3486. What is the value of that kind of gun in US? Thank you very much for your help! |

The model 63 is built on the smaller "J" frame vs. the model 617 on the "K" frame. Jim |

My friend just showed me his Model 59 that was given to him back (he thinks) about 1983.
It is like new, and I am trying to find out for him when it was made and what it is worth. SN A544XXX Can you help me with this information? |

Ballzak,
A544XXX = 1979. Value depends on condition and finish (blued or nickel). And if it has any accessories such as original box and paperwork. Figure from about $300 well used (but not beat up) to $600 plus in like new with original packaging. Jim |
