what's everyone using this year?

With a cold snap that has hit most of the states the rut is ramping up most places, certainly not all. We are a few weeks into gun season here. I killed a nice 8 point the second day and haven't seen a decent buck within 600 yards since. When it was 85 degrees out of course. He was 102 yards broad side and a bang flop. Sorry my picture posting skills are non existent. The gun was a 300 wsm model 70. I load 150 Hornady interbonds over superformance. The interbonds are alright. I liked partitions better. I also hunted with my Traditions .45 cal muzzleloader.

What are you using or planning to use this year?

Good luck in the deer woods.

Congrats on your buck! Is your season over or do you have more time?

Used a 243 Winchester for antelope. I am really lucky to have access to private land for both antelope and mulies. I found that there are usually small groups of goats hanging out in a nice canyon. Makes "spot and stalk" easy and very enjoyable. Got a doe opening day. We been eating antelope burritos and chili.

Going to that same place tomorrow to scout the deer and place a game cam. Got a doe tag for the late season. Will be using a 6.5 Creedmoor for that hunt. 120 Hornady Full Boar ammo. Opens Dec. 1st.

I used my 8X57 for my deer. 170 Gr Hornady SST
I hope to kill my elk with my 9.3X57 in the next 2-3 weeks. 250 grain Nosler Accu-Bond

.307 Win in a Marlin/Glenfield/Remlin 336 built from the parts box, with factory Win 180 gr SPs.

If I'm feeling froggy, the custom Marlin 444 may come out (factory 265 gr Superformance, or 275 gr handloads), or even the Ruger .270 (140 gr Partitions at 2,790 fps).
Elk season closes in five days. Time is ticking...

We have a long season here. You can take 6 deer total with 2 to 4 bucks or 2 to 4 does. Depending on how you use your tags. Our season in Eastern NC runs through January second. I am normally good for 4 or five total deer.

Spent a week in SC whitetail hunting, shot a awesome 13 pt, 2 smaller bucks and 2 does, caliber of choice, 7-08 shooting 130 gr speer spbt out of my weatherby vanguard S2 or 7-08 shooting 120 br nosler bt out of my Browning xbolt.
Up here in NH the firearms season just kicked off, saw a small doe this morning, couldnt have shot her even had I wanted to. Bucks only in the area I hunt. I carry my rem model 7 in 7-08 up here, lightest rifle I own.

I'll be using revolvers for deer here during Wisconsin's upcoming Gun Deer Season. Either .357, .44 or .460, depending on how/where I'm hunting that day and whatever the whim I wake up with.

I'll be taking my Remington R-15 in 30 Rem AR. Handloads with the 125 Accubond pushed by 38.5gr IMR 8208. Low recoil and superbly accurate.

Given some thought prior to. Not hunting modern this year. To much people traffic cruising about on neighboring property's. Plan on hunting the first week of B/Powder after Thanksgiving. Woods are quieter deer have migrated into Posted property for safety. Their relaxed and moving about browsing even in the day time. It's pretty easy to see 3 to 5 daily passing thru or about perched in my son's deer stand. As far as firearm? Got a little T/C 45 Hawken for my use and a 54 Hawken for a back-up. Patched /ball for ammo and a cut brass charger measuring out my homemade. Only need a couple days to pull a antlered piece of freezer meat out of the woods. No fuss and never a bust B/P hunting trip.

Otherwise when I do hunt modern I tote my deer get'ers.
Roosting up in my Deer stand _Rem 700 CDL wood stock Mountain Rifle._ 270 Win (130 gr. NBT) Bullseyed fer 200.

On the ground on the scout walking about. K.I.S.S._ Savage Model 99 carbine 300 cal levered up into battery position. Bullets 170 gr. FP Hornady 30-30 bullets. Original factory {open barrel sights} Have to be really quick to get off snap shot/s y'll where I hunt. "That can't be accomplished having Glass to peer thru."

The 25/06 has become my preferred cartridge for deer. It has the range and power for 350+ yards w/o the recoil of the 257 Wby or 7mmRM.

I used an AR in 6.5Grendel to get my antelope this year. I'm using bow for the rest of the season. Rifle seasons just didn't line up well with my free time schedule this year.

.308 Winchester 180 grain Federal Premium here.
It would have helped to have actually seen an elk, though.

I took a big doe earlier this year with a .50 muzzleloader throwing a 385 grain Great Plains bullet over 90 grains of Pyrodex R.

I was holding a Remington 700 in .308 with Hornady's American Whitetail ammo yesterday when I watched six does and one little eight point but decided not to shoot any of them.

My wife is using her tried and true Ruger .243 with my hand loads. I have been using a sharp knife so far, on her button buck. Otherwise it will depend on my mood or whim should I decide to go.

I'll be using a Remington Gamemaster 141 and my son will be using a Marlin 336. Both in 35 remington. Antlered rifle season is only a short 5 days on this side of PA. It doesn't even include a Saturday.
