I just hoarded a few boxes of 40 yeasterday...

they had dozens of boxes of everything.. 9mm, 40, 45, 380, 38, 357...

seems like Yahoo! is about 6 months late in their story...

It seems that here things are slowly returning to normal. I can usually find 9mm, .40, and .45. Still no .357 Mag or .380 that I've seen though. And still not too many JHP's of any kind.

I'm a little south of Chicago and things are picking up a little here. Smaller shops, the ones that are still around, are ok but it seems bigger stores have nothing. Gander stoped selling handgun ammo all together because they said they can't and won't deal with the hassel of getting ammo and stocking it.

I finally got some .22LR for the first time in a long time. There was no .45ACP available and only a few boxes of 9mm and .40. They had the .22 LR hidden under the counter; I almost didn't ask. I'm glad I did; they guy said there was plenty so I bought my 6 box limit. The day before, I actually got a couple boxes of .380 in a different Walmart. I haven't seen any .380 in more than a year.

5.56, 1000 Rounds case. Is $500 a good price?

I have a friend that offered to sell me a case of his Winchester 5.56 ammo
It's 55Gr. FMJ and it was made here in the USA. He has had it in storage for about 10 years in a heated safe. I've fired a few rounds of the loose ammo had had in the safe with it and it all fired really well with no misfires or jams.
He is asking $475 for the case of 1000 rounds. It's unopened and there are 20 rounds per box in the case of 50 boxes. He guarantees it is all 100% USA made and it says so on the case label too. He has 20 loose boxes he'll sell me for $10.25 a box in any qty I want less than the case.
If I don't want the case, is the $10.25 a box a good deal?

It's so hard to get that much ammo around here, do you think he might be trying to get the better of me sice it is?

I haven't needed any ammo for a couple of years so it sounds like a pretty good deal right now. I've got enough for now but I could always use more if it is a good deal. Last time I bought 5.56 ammo it was only $7.50 a box

I told him I'd let him know in a couple of days so I could research his offer.
I can find similar ammo at Cabela's at $589 for 600 rounds so I think he's close. I wouldn't have to pay their shipping charges either. The stuff from Cabela's isn't USA made and I'm not even sure they have any in stock either.

edit: PSA has Winchester for $9/box or $461/1000 including shipping.

But if American-made isn't a requirement, Cabela and PSA have PMC, which is good stuff, for cheaper. http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/349.php

I'll se if I can get his price down .
I'll print this out and show him he's still too high.

.50 per round is just plain highway robbery- was months ago and will be in 6 months- just wait to buy a bunch- get enough to get by for now.

bulk ammo for AR?

I'm looking for some decent bulk ammo for a decent price for my Bushmaster AR-15.

I have found these two:
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=500330
http://east.outdoormarksman.com/prod...oducts_id=1267

Which of those two is best? Any better suggestions?

Thanks a lot guys

go with sportsmansguide. It's the centurion ammo. Gets great reviews, I run alot of it through my colt 6920. if you're a guide member you only pay $351 a case and use a ten dollar coupon only $341. I get shipped to my door for a hair over $360 total for a case. Aimsurplus also sells the same stuff at a good price when they have it in.

Well, normally I would say that Q3131 is better of the two, but they are out of stock at Outdoor Marksman. You might look at gun-deals.com for vendors and types of ammo out there.

A suggestion: if possible, buy a smaller quantity than 1000 to check function and accuracy in your rifle.

get into reloading... same money, learn more about ammo, learn more about your rifle, and you will shoot more often

reloading is probably the long term answer.

but to check current prices at different online stores,
compare them,
track the price changes over time
(so you know if you are buying at a high point or not)

use

there are many sources for military grade ammo.

Ammoman.com
Natchez shooters supply
Palmetto State armory
Georgia Arms

and a lot more. Use Google, read the forums, buy cheap.

I recently bought 500rds of M193 Spec 5.56 for ~$180 shipped from Aim Surplus. Visual inspection of ammo was good.

Today October 9, 2009 I was notified that Cabella's shipped my order for large pistol primers which I had back ordered on Sept. 25th.

I don't know if I simply got lucky and only had to wait two weeks or if this is another sign that supplies are catching up to demand.

My wait for large rifle primers that I started looking for in early February 2009 was four months.

Where are the Ammo and Reloading Supplies? - Merged Threads

If you would have ordered them thru Graf and Sons you would have already had them by now.
