My shop got a repair repo in a couple of weeks ago. I don't know what the original problem was.
The gun sure as hell looks like a Mosin-Nagant, complete with side-swinging bayo. Chamber mark at the muzzle is 7.62x54R, so that fits. The top of the receiver is stamped "1955." However, right above the date stamp are three Japanese characters. Condition: No finish. Considerable dingss on the metal. Stock is beat all to hell and back. Bore is decent. Did the Japs arsenal-rework Nagants during the Fifties? |

Just a note, but Japanese and Chinese written characters are the same in most instances. Much more likely to be a Chinese Gun than Japanese.

Coineach:
M1944 Carbine: CHINA China made Mosin-Nagant Type 53 carbines. They; are virtually identical with the Soviet 1944g, but were marked 53 on the receiver and often bore the encircled-triangle mark of factory 66. NORTH KOREA A poor quality copy of the Soviet 1891/30g rifle was made in the 1950's apparently as the Type 30. It was distinguished by a large encircled five point star, preceding the serial number on the left side of the receiver. HJN |

The marks are definitely not Chinese.
I'll check the other markings tonight and report back. |

Definitely a '55 Chicom carbine on M-N'44 lines. The bore is chrome-plated.
It kicks like a mule... but is a good PC wallhanger...not semi-auto see! Surprisingly accurate... if you can stand the kick and muzzle-blast. Avoid the AP 7.62mm round(silver tip) in this rifle...it hurts! ------------------ If we shooting sportspersons don't hang together... we will all hang separately ! Never knock another's different shooting interest or discipline...REMEMBER we are all but leaves on the same tree of freedom. |
