Stevens 425 High Power
Hi,
We are trying to find out just how many Stevens 425 High Power rifles were actually manufactured. We do not believe the 26,000 number quoted in the Blue Book and Flayderman's, nor do we believe the figure of 10,000-11,000 as quoted in Bill West's book on Savage & Stevens. In the Marlin Firearms book by Brophy, he claims that only about 1,000 were manufactured between 1911-1917, and that might be a much more accurate figure. If you have a Stevens 425 series High Power rifle, or know someone who has one, please post the gun's serial number on this forum. So far we have identified 18 guns. The lowest serial number so far is #1050 and the highest is #5302. The Stevens 425 series serial numbers were lumped together in the Stevens' records with another Stevens rifle, possibly the Crack Shot no. 15 and the 425 numbers do not appear to be consecutive by themselves, so identifying individual rifles is important. Please help! Peter |

Somebody else out there must have a Stevens 425 series High Power lever gun. Mine is #4837 in .32 Remington. I am researching these and need the serial numbers of known guns. Please post known numbers on this forum. Thanks!

Stevens 425 High Power
As of today, 1/2/2009, we have 22 known Stevens High Power rifles in our serial number list. The lowest number is still 1050 and the higest is still 5302.
There are no guns listed under 1000; five guns with serial numbers under 2000; Five guns between 2000 and 3000; Only three guns between 3000 and 4000; Seven guns between 4000 and 5000, and still only two guns over 5000 (5201 & 5302). Still looking for more numbers!! Peter |

Bill, Please do post your serial number. We now have 25 guns on our list. The Stevens 425 High Power seems to be a very scarce rifle. We are looking for all the info we can get. Here is a photo of one.

I was doing some online research to sell a 425 Stevens I have and found this forum.
Mine is in 25 Remington and is serial number 4043. It will be on gunbroker in a few days or a week or so. |

Thanks for the info on 4043. I saw it on GunBroker and it looks like a nice gun.
We now have 40 Stevens High Power lever guns on our list. The lowest number is still 1050, and the highest number is now 5594. Not everyone has a computer, so Please ask your friends to be on the lookout for one of these guns at a gun shop or show, and post the serial number and caliber here. We need more numbers! Peter |

We have added two more High Power rifles to our list: Serial number 2567 in .30 Rem and 4594 also in .30 Rem.
So far, the High Powers in .25 Rem caliber seem to be the rarest (with only 5 guns listed), followed by .32 Rem (9 guns), .35 Rem (11 guns), and finally .30 Rem a.k.a. 30-30 Rem (15 guns). Only 42 guns on the list. Surely there are more out there. Ask your gun buddies. Peter |

Sorry, I haven't posted in quite awhile, but we are still actively seeking the serial numbers and calibers for any and all Stevens 425 High Power Rifles. This includes the fancier versions (430, 435, and 440) and the 425-C (saddle ring carbine).
We now have 198 of these rifles on our list. They all have 4-digit serial numbers. The lowest number is 1021 and the highest number found is 5594 and these numbers have remained constant for a long time. The most common caliber is .30 Rem (aka 30-30 Rem) with 81 guns, next is .35 Rem with 61 guns, followed by .25 Rem with 27 guns, and .32 Rem with only 23 guns. There are several guns with known serial numbers but unknown calibers. Please continue to post your serial numbers and calibers! Thanks! Peter Zobian NRA Life Member |

FWIW, it is common for gun makers to begin serial numbering at some even number, like 1000. Not only does that solve problems with placement, centering, etc., but gives the prospective customer a warm, fuzzy feeling that the gun is well established and not just a trial piece. (Collectors like guns with low serial numbers, buyers not so much.)

I recently found a Stevens High Power in 32 Remington at a shop near me. Had never seen one so tried doing some research and found this forum. Can anyone give me an idea what these are worth or if anyone has one for sale? the one I found has a serial number in the 2000's but someone did a poor job refinishing the stocks a long time ago.

So, I own serial number 5301 in .30 REM. Just wondering, is 5302 still highest known in the .30 rem?

I e-mailed the originator of this thread some months ago when another 425 showed up.
Unfortunately, I've received no response, and the originator has not returned.
