My new .22lr revolver.
Just got a H&R model 929 9 shot revolver. It was manufactured in 1982 and has quite a bit of wear on it. It does have some rusting on the handle and I have tried my best to remove all of it. This gun will not win any beauty contest but it is just cool. Any thoughts on how to remove the rust that is left on it or just any general comments. Sorry one of my tattoo's is in the one pic, I take those pics for proof of ownership for insurance reasons.
I actually "needed" another .22lr because I traded my light-striking PT-22 in towards a Glock 22.

Nice!
I have a soft spot for most any .22LR revolver.
My one & only H&R revolver was a Model 999 Sportsman top-break .22LR, and it was truly an awesome little gun. I kick myself for ever trading it off. It shot well, and I shot well with it... a good combination. Here's a shot I found online: |

Nice. You should try to find another one. Mine was sitting in my LGS begging me to take it home and care for it.

Try FLITZ paste metal polish. I've used it on, literally, hundreds of H&R guns and following directions it has removed surface rust and brightened up the polished parts. I've also used METALGLO which is roughly the same and gives the same results. Either one will work for you, just don't use it on a "color case hardened" finish.....

Those little H&Rs make a nice woods-beater.

Ordered some Metal Glo off of Ebay today. Hope I can get the rest of the rust off of it. Most of it is on the handle, the barrel has a very small spot of rust inside, and there is a small spot on the side. The blueing on the gun still looks good though.

UPDATE: Got the Metal glo in the mail today. I polished the heck out of the gun and was able to remove the rust in the barrel and some of it on the handle. I think permanent damage has been done by the previous owners lack of care for this gun. There is some pitting on the grip that I cannot fix.
All in all the gun looks much better and after shooting it, I like it even more.

Nocturnus 31: As for the pits and a few rust spots, just call them "character marks" and try not to add any of your own. But hey, you got it as a shooter and a woods-toter, and you said it shoots good, so what more is there?? I admire a clean shiny new pistol, but sometimes the real sweetheart is one that's been there and back. Enjoy your H&R.

Speaking of guns that have been there and done that - here's one of my favorites. I've got a couple hundred H&Rs but this one stands out because of all the character it has. The other things - the rare 5 inch barrel in .38 - this was obviously purchased with a purpose in mind and from the looks of it, it served that purpose well.
BTW - this one under went the FLITZ and silicone coating treatment and you can see the results. At least all the active rust was stopped and what is left of the plating is well protected. IMG_2120.jpg |

@32 Magnum
Wow, that gun has been around. It does have character though and it still looks classy. @richardcorey yeah I agree the marks do add some character to the gun. The rest of the gun besides the handle looks beautiful, barring a couple small spots. It is pretty accurate and is a blast to shoot, no pun intended.

Nice find, always liked the H&R 22s...just fun to shoot. Looked for a 999 a couple years ago, didn't find one, but did find a 22 Special...forerunner of the 999.

I've had my H&R 949 9 shot revolver for about 20 years now.
These are great guns for the woods. I'm a big fan of H&R 22's, and even the 32's.
