If memory serves, it could be either or. I have an -A2, what I call the post-pre-ban... it was built in the early '90's after Colt resumed production, but before the AWB. It doesn't have a bayonet lug, but it also doesn't have the receiver block, either. It is a Big Pin lower. SN# MHxxxxxx.

Technically, and more importantly, legally, I believe anything made before SEP94 (13SEP94, to be exact...) is pre-ban, everything else is post-ban.

Wouldn't anything with a flash suppressor and bayonet lug be pre ban? As I remember things any AR with either of those items be would be pre ban or current production.

No, because current production rifles (post AWB) can have those features, and it's possible to retrofit a ban-era rifle with a bayonet lug or flash hider.

You could measure/inspect the front sight to see if it's an A2 or F-marked sight. The A2 sights went with the carry handle upper receivers. The F-marked (think Flat topped) sights went with the Flat Top Upper Receiver with the picatinny rail.

If the front sight has the bayonet lug is it either pre-ban or post-ban. If you have a flat top Upper with an A2 front sight and bayonet lug, the barrel and front sight have been replaced.
