Answer to the moderators' prayers?

The Stupidfilter...

No, really, I'm not making this up.

According to their website, it works like this:
Quote:
...what do you plan to filter?
The idea is that the most egregiously stupid comments will also be the easiest to detect while remaining ignorant of context; comments with too much or too little capitalization, too many text-message abbreviations, excessive use of "LOL," exclamation points, and so on.

How do you rate stupidity?
Since we're trying to build a detailed database that serves as a very verbose example of What Not To Do, we look for comments whose prose style we can point to and say, "I don't even have to understand the content of this comment to know that it's stupid," -- based on the gross prose style alone, its stupidity is self-evident. It is then useful as an example for our parser to integrate into its database of stupidity.
They also note:
Quote:
Isn't filtering stupidity elitist?
Yes. Yes, it is. That's sort of the whole point.
The beta version is out now, and can be downloaded from their site. They also have a nifty demo page where you can enter text samples and see how their software rates them. I tried it with a post or two from this forum, and hey, it works pretty darn well. (It's sorta fun, too!)

I don't know what it would take to integrate it with the forum software, but I imagine the creators have taken that into account; it's, as they say, sort of the whole point...

Hm, that could be good. At least if it politely warned the "stupid" of their stupidity and advised them to correct and try again.

Wild,

Does it edit out your sig lines?

Go to http://www.contractortalk.com/ I'm a mod there and it's a mod's dream. It took a few years to get there but it's generally self regulating, the members pretty much control the site. They simply ignore the the spammers, trolls and others that don't belong there.

My role is, most often, to issue warnings and subdue pie fights among members.
