Thanksgiving hunts
I hope that this topic doesn't offend anyone who don't celebrate Thanksgiving, so if I did then I appologize.
I was just wondering how many hunters here attend a Thanksgiving hunt. I haven't since I was 13 and I didn't enjoy having to carry around my uncle's Browning Gold 10 gauge all day with no sling! None the less I had lots of fun soaking up the beauty of the outdoors. Share your stories. |

My family traditionaly holds a big deer hunt on Thanksgiving day in NY. Its one of the only days in the year that the whole family has the day off and can get together for one big deer hunt. Nearly every Thanksgiving someone in the family is successful getting a deer. The day starts out with the hunt in the morning, followed by dinner in the afternoon, and then a football game to end the evening,

When I was a kid ( 10-14) I would always get up before dawn and hike a couple of miles into some brush and farmland that had water and ducks. It was big thing for me to come back with a couple of quail, ducks or rabbits. Mom would stuff them with some of the turkey stuffing and cook them along with all the other great things she had prepared. When we all sat down to eat lunch my Dad and family would have a nice comment on how I contributed to the family feast.. Great memories !! Great motivation to pass along to the next generation of sportsman..

This year will be my first Thanksgiving hunt. This is only my second season. A good friend has invited me to join him and his wife for Thanksgiving in the woods. I will be heading out at 4am to drive to meet them they are going the night before and then we will hunt Thursday and Friday. Hopefully I can get me a good deer or at least see some good ones.

I'll be hunting Thanksgiving day. I'll be in stand from sunrise until about noon or 1pm. Then heading to the mother in laws house for a mediocre turkey dinner.
Ahh... tradition. |

Growing up in Wisconsin, Thanksgiving was always without dad as the deer season falls that week every year. When I got to be about 12, that's when I started hunting and skipping thanksgiving. Nobody really even thinks too much about it. That's just the way it is.

I never let a holiday or much of anything else get in the way going hunting.
