.22-250 Load Question
So I am starting to handload/reload because I have all the top of the line reloading equipment I just have never touched it
I am interested in handloading a 22-250 cartridge for use on deer. Does the .22-250 use .22 bullets? If so do i just buy a box of .22 bullets and load them into a .22-250 caseing? |

Yes the 22-250 does use .22 caliber bullets anything you see on the shelfs that says .22 cal on it will work in the 22-250 i use a 55gr. V-MAX in front of 34 grains of IMR-4895

Actually it used .224 caliber bullets. and for deer I would try to use something like a 55 gr or 60 gr bullet that you gun will stabilize. I use Varget in my 22-250 as that seems to be the best powder I have used

Nosler makes a .224" partition that you could probably get minute of deer out of.

I load .224 50gr Hornady V-Max for my dad's Remington 700 VLS. These are the same bullets for .222 Remington, .223 Remington, .222 Remington Magnum, .224 Weatherby, .220 Swift, .225 Winchester, .223 WSSM, etc.
My loads are close to the Hornady load, plus some. My dad has taken East Texas white tail buck, hog, and coyotes with this load. H-Varget, and Large Rifle(I like Federal) primer and Nosler brass. Mine register at over 3900fps on my Chrony. You don't see a variety of commercial loads for .22-250 as you do with .223. For the most part, it's 40gr, 50gr or 55gr on the shelf. 40gr, 50gr, 55gr is what a lot of reloaders use. The .22-250 usually has a 1:14 twist, which is not "heavy for caliber" bullet friendly. Hornady's 40gr load has 4.5in of drop at 300 yards. Good for small varmints at a distance. It's 4150fps at the muzzle.
