New Savage Model 10 FCP-K 308

Just purchased a Savage Model 10 FCP-K in a 308. I have owned a few rifles that I considered to be shooters, but by far this is the most accurate rife I have ever shot. 100 yds are 1 ragged hole, 200 yds are 1/2 groups and
300 yds are 1". I am shooting a load of IMR 4895 @43.6 grains seated
@ 2.083 which is .003 off lands. A friend of my shot the same groups with it a few minutes later. Zeroed in 2" high @100 yds, It hit dead center at 200 yds and 6" low at 300 yds.I am a little reluctant about posting this but, I thought I would share these results in case anyone out there was thinking about buying one of these rifles. This was out of the box accuracy. The scope was a Nikon 4 x 16 x 50 Monarch. I am planning on shooting this weekend from 300 yds to 600 yds.

I bought my son the same exact rifle and it is a very accurate rifle. We load 165 gr SSTs I'n his with Varget powder. You don't want to carry it very far but boy when you squeeze off you can better bet it hits it's mark

Welcome to the TFL forum and welcome to the Savage family. You have a keeper for sure. What bullet are you using with that load?

Jim, I am using a Sierra 165 grain SBT. I loaded 5 up tonight with 44 grains to try along with the previous load mentioned this weekend.

I like your powder choice, I am a H-4895 fan myself it gives a nice soft push to the bullets as oposed to 4350. I have had excelent accuracy with that powder.

Savage 110 in 270 Winchester with a 130 grain SST 100 yards 5 shot group.

Good luck on your 300-600 trip.
Jim

That is an outstanding group. I bought a Savage in a 243 for my son years ago for his first deer rifle. Your group reminds me of the way that rifle grouped.
This rifle I just purchased has got me excited about shooting again.
