RUGER New Model SuperBlackhawk questions.
I want...( hadda get that out there! )
I already have 3 .44's in different configurations. I want the SA revolver to go with my MARLIN 1895 .45-70. I plan to use Garrett ammo as they specialize in those 2 cartridges I plan to make my 1895 into a blued version of the SBL. As for the 'sidearm', I plan to get a crossdraw holster for the 4 5/8" bbl. length. It's not a 'hunting' gun. ( WA State law may require a 5" minimum bbl length for 'hunting', but may exempt shorter bbl length for self-defense or animal dispatching...can't confirm yet ) That said, is the 'Dragoon' , or squared-triggerguard, an option on a blued, short bbl .44? Holster recommendations? Grip recommendations? ( I typically go with HOGUE ) Share any pics. if you have 'em! thanks! Please post some pics, differences aside, for good reference. Thanks!

The square back guards thump some people's fingers under the forces of the recoiling.

I can't help with the trigger guard. In reference to the grips, I have been happy with these Pachmayr's on my SBH.

Check out the Mernickle cross draw holster. Comfortable carry.

As the best I know and can discern, the Dragoon grip frame only comes on the 7 1/2" barreled Super Blackhawk, and maybe longer barrels. However, its no problem to fit one to any Ruger Blackhawk.
The Dragoon style is my preference for the hard kicking magnums. Here is a 4 5/8" Blackhawk in .45 Colt with said grip frame: Here is another .45 Colt, a former Bisley: Another .45 Colt Blackhawk: And a 5" Three Screw, cut down from 7 1/2": Bob Wright

Bob Wright is correct. My 5.5" SBH came with a rounded trigger guard

If you tuck your pinky finger underneath the grip, the square trigger guard won't touch your fingers. That's how I do it.

BusGunner: In Washington state you can carry a handgun that doesn't meet hunting regulation, if you have a Concealed Carry Permit. AFAIK this is true even though we are an open carry state.
Double check the regs before going out. |
