Primers for LEVEREVOLUTION powder

Does anyone recommend magnum primers for use with LEVEREVOLUTION powder in a 30-30?
I know that Speer has recommended magnum primers for most ball/spherical propellants in the past, including BL-C(2), which seems to be almost a twin powder. In Propellant Profiles, R.H. VanDenburg tested BL-C(2) using both Federal 210 and 215 primers in 30-30 with best results for the 215 primer. But in his June 2011 article in Handloader concerning LEVEREVOLUTION powder, he does not mention the primers he used.
So, I thought I should ask here if anyone has experience with this powder.

I do not. I can, however, tell you the old '60s era ball powders all have deterrent chemistry that benefits from extra ignition effort. Leverevolution is newer, so it may not have that problem, just as the Ramshot powders (also newer spherical powders) do not, but I don't actually know. I would call Hodgdon and get your answer from the horse's mouth.

I have had great results with a Marlin XLR .30-30 using LeveRevolution powder and 140 GTX and 160 FTX bullets with Winchester WLR and Federal 210 primers.
No need to use magnum primers.

Hodgdon's site says regular large rifle. Mind you, Hodgdon also says Magnum for magnum named cartridges but not for non-magnum named cartridges with the same powder. And they tested .30-30 loads with a 24" barrel.
I'm not entirely convinced calling Hodgdon would help, given the nonsense they publish on their site, but it couldn't hurt.

Nonsense? Hodgdon has always seemed to determine primer type needed mostly by the case volume. 26 Nosler is magnum primer and its not a magnum.

Hodgdon's data is not organized with a separate primer column for each powder or even for each bullet. They pick just one primer for each cartridge and stick with it. The barrel length for most of their data is whatever the SAAMI standard pressure and velocity barrel length is. For .30-30, that SAAMI P&V barrel length is 24 inches, whether lever gun owners like it or not. That was not Hodgdon's choice. Commercial ammunition makers using SAAMI barrels test their published velocities with that 24" length, too, though they don't typically mention it on the ammunition box.

I guess I would consider temperature, in my youth I deer hunted in Wisconsin in temperatures around 20 to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Sometimes the correct primer or magnum primer maybe better suited with some powders.

That's correct. CCI revised their magnum primer formulation in 1989 specifically to better ignite the spherical propellants Hodgdon and Winchester sold that had been developed in the 1960s for the military. Subsequently, all domestic commercial primers have added metal to modify the spark temperature to help with that problem. So, today, about all you can do is try different primers under the conditions you will be shooting in and see which one does best with your load.

Thanks fellas, I will be using magnum primers with the BL-C(2) and give standard primers first chance with the Leverevolution and see where it goes from there.

Always had good luck with WLR or Remington 9 1/2 primers with the
Leverevolution propellant.

I always use fed 210 match with it.
