243 WIN reloading powder
I'm going to be reloading some 243 rounds. I've got the cases, primers and 100 grain bullets. I'm looking at WIN 760 as the powder to use. What do you consider a good powder for this round? I want to stay with a ball or spherical powder so that it will meter well.

760 is good. For the 100 gr bullets, you might even try 780 if you want even higher velocities.

I would not limit yourself to just those types of powders. I use h4895 (with awesome results with a 95 grn Berger vld) and throw a charge within a couple tenths and trickle the rest until it is right on. Powder tricklers are cheap, but do add a little time to the reloading process.

I have had pretty good luck with reloader 19 in 243 with 85 grain tsx's. My rifle likes a mid-range load. I am still in the experimental stage with it but would be happy to take this setup hunting with 4 shots landing at 1" to 1 1/4" at 100 yards every time. Good luck,

Right now I'm using Varget with good results, but I'm still tinkering.

IMR4064 is awesome in my old Sako .243, with 90 gr Berger bullets.

Any of the -4350's or -4064's should give you good results. I'm going to try Re-17 in my .243 as soon as I find some. If you just want a ball powder, Win-760 should serve you well. Personally, I shoot AA-4350 in all my .243 loads.

Lot of good advice in the reloading manuals.
I used several powders reccomended by the manuals and had good results with all. I finally settled on H414 as my all-around for this caliber. |

I have used IMR4895 for 65 gr bullets.
I have used Varget for 87 gr bullets. I have used H4350 for 100 gr bullets. I have been using W748 for 6mmBR, but not 243 yet. W748 should work just fine with 243 100 gr. |

Another TU for H414, to be fair I haven't actually done much experimenting with other powders in this cartridge because it's done what I wanted from the beginning. I think it's the only powder I've used for 90+ gr pills in the .243

+1 IMR4895 for .243 loads. A friend only uses this.
My reloading manual says also AR2208 works well.

I have used 748, 760, 4064, 4350, and 4895 - all with excellent results. My best grouping in the Ruger No.1 RSI used the Sierra 85BTHP and 4350. IIRC, it was 47 grains (have to check my notes)

When I shot at the 1000yd range with my 243ack, I used H4831SC, H1000 and Reloader 22. Mostly using Berger 95 and 105VLDs.

.243 loads
IMR4895 for 85gr. loads
IMR4350 for 100 gr. loads SUPER accuracy in my Rem. 700. About 1/2" @ 100yds. both loads. |

I, too, have gotten exceptional accuracy using IMR 4064 in years past.
All charges were thrown with my RCBS Uniflow. Groups between 1/4 and 1/2 inch at 100 yards were common when I took my time and concentrated.

Might want to try hodgdon's Hybrid V100 - Burn rate is between 4831, and 4350 - but is ball-like, and meters great. I'm loading 42.5gr and getting 3027FPS with a 100gr Sierra BTSP with a 24" Barrel.

I hate to say this, but H414 and WW760 ate the same breakfast. They are one and the same made at the St Marks facility; just packaged differently. I use them with complete satisfaction in the 243 and a half dozen other calibers.
IMR 4895 and 4064 work well with lighter bullets in my kid's M788. The 100 grainers get IMR 7828 or RL22. If I have to shoot at long range, the 80 to 90 grainers get fed H414 because it's priced about $4.00 a pound less than the WW can. Go figure.

If you are near a Cabellas, I just got some H4350 and 4831 for 22.99, and Hybrid V100 for 21 and some change. Cheapest I've seen it in years!

I've gotten my best accuracy with IMR4895 and 100gr bullets.

100 grs\METERING WELL.... I'd have to go with 748 or 760, though I've got really good results with IMR 4350, 4320, and 4064 with the longer bullets.
