question re on/off-line feature

Just noticed at bottom lefthand section of a poster's post box (hugely descriptive, I know ), the on or off-line status. Accidently left my cursor on the thing (avatar?) for long enough ...
hmmm.

Neat feature.

Some are bullet holes & some are red crosshairs. Doesn't seem to have any pattern regards # of posts, moderator or not ....

What's the skinny?

Crosshairs are online, bullet holes are offline. Same as the New Post, No New Post icons on the main page.

Its especially handy if you want to send another member a private message. You can do it while they're online and have a near-real-time conversation.

I agree, AA. Neat feature.

Just wait until you put together a buddy list! The crosshaired folks rise to the top and the bullethole folks sink to the bottom of the list.
