New Mossberg!!!
Hey everyone.
I JUST picked up a new Mossberg 500 20 gauge. It's my first shotgun and I'm really excited to try it out later. I picked it up used for $250, good deal?

I'm sure you'll like it - they're pretty reliable shellshuckers, AND there's plenty of aftermarket goodies available, if you're so inclined.
It's ALWAYS good, when a new gun is had. . . |

Congratulations! You'll love the 500.
Don't worry about the price. It wasn't a steal but, if it's in good shape, you didn't get taken advantage of either. It's worth it. |

I own a 500 20 and I love it!
Simple, robust, easy to clean and accurate. Mine is a 22" improved choke with wood furniture. Before you start 'improving' your new shotgun you might want to ask the following question. Does your tactical zombie killer stop the bad guy any quicker than my 'fowling piece'? This might make a difference when you are standing in front of the judge trying to explain your use of deadly force. |

I sold my Mossberg 20 and bought a Remington. It was difficult for my fat thumb to load a 3 inch shell into the 500 but not the 870. My thumb would hit the ends of some metal parts. The 870 had a bit more gap or open area so my thumb didn't hit anything when pushing the shell in.

Depending on what part of FL you live in, there are a lot of good shotgun clubs - the trap/skeet type - for you practice swinging that gun
Make sure it fits you decently and go enjoy |

The shop threw in a box of Estate Birdshot. Is Estate any good? I've never heard of them.

Federal isn't the only one. It seems that most of the major gun/ammo/accessories manufacturers are consolidating. There is the group that owns Remington, Marlin, Bushmaster, DPMS, etc. There is the group that owns Beretta, Benelli, Franchi, etc. The group that owns Winchester, Browning, etc. The group that owns S&W, Thompson/Center, etc. And so forth. At the way it's going we'll be down to all major firearms manufacturing being controlled by a handfull of super-sized corporations.
Of course, there is always the bottom-of-the-barrel group (Taurus, Rossi, and now Heritage). |
