date on s&w model 37

Hi I recently inherited a model 37 airweight from my grandfather and Im trying to figure out when it was made. The serial number is 923xxx and it has 136x1 stamped under the handle. It also has a pinned barrel. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a "J" prefix with that number? If so, J923xxx = 1982.

By "stamped under the handle," do you mean the number is on the bottom of the grip frame? The real serial number will be there.

If that's it, your gun was shipped in 1952, though model numbers were not stamped on the guns yet then.
