Illinois Does Not Honor Oklahoma . . . AL AG Incorrect Info

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) which issues OK Licenses to Carry is reporting on their Reciprocity Page listing that Illinois honors Oklahoma. Illinois WILL NOT honor an Oklahoma License to Carry for general carry in Illinois. Talking via phone to OSBI they understand that IL will only honor the OK License to Carry in a vehicle but they state it is the License holders responsibility to read that Illinois will only honor the Oklahoma License as long as the person stays in their vehicle while in Illinois. The way they have it listed along with the other states listed many Oklahoma residents seeing the listing may believe they can carry in Illinois. They stated they will not note on their website that the OK License is only valid while in their vehicle and again stated it was the persons responsibility to know the law in Illinois if they were going to carry there. http://www.ok.gov/osbi/Handgun_Licen...ity/index.html

The Alabama Attorney General has still not updated his website with the new Alabama law that went into effect almost 4 months ago 8/1/13. He is still stating that Alabama will only honor those states that honor Alabama (New AL law has universal recognition) AG site still states a person can’t even transport a handgun secured and unloaded without a permit. (They can without a permit now if unloaded and secured. Alabama is even Shall Issue now) All three emails I have sent them asking when they are going to update their website have gone unanswered.

The Alabama District Attorneys Association and the Alabama Sheriffs Association working together put out a synopsis on the new law 5 days before it even went into effect and they have it all spelled out. The AG still can’t update his website even when it is pointed out to him. Here is what the Alabama District Attorneys and Sheriffs Association have put out. http://www.walkercountysheriff.com/u...ct2013-283.pdf

www.handgunlaw.us will add a note to the Oklahoma page on how Illinois honors the Oklahoma License and will put a link to the synopsis for Alabama in the Links Section of that states page. That info will be added Friday 11/22.

Hey, at least they allow you to remain armed while in your vehicle. California will not allow a loaded firearm anywhere inside a vehicle unless unloaded and in a locked container. In New jersey and New York (and even more so in NYC), they won't even recognize the safe harbor provided by federal law--if they find a gun, you are toast, and god help you if you have any evil hollow points. [NJ has some weird laws. It is legal for stores to sell hollow points, and it is legal to have them at your house or at the range--but illegal to take them from one place to another, as I understand it.]
