Remington: Remington 700

With the state of Remington, I wonder who will pick up the Remington 700 pattern and produce them under $1000. Winchester 70 is being built by FN....who will make Rem 700’s?

This might actually be the final nail for the 700. There are already several companies making clones of the 700 that are better and have addressed the 700's shortcomings. Bergara is already making a better 700 clone selling for under $1000.

I have purchased two Salvage Axis rifles over the past 2 years...I have a 1/2 dozen Rem 700's. The Savage rifles shoot accurately; I am quite pleased with them. Both were from BPS on a Black Friday sale/rebate deal....the two for less than a total of $500 and they came with a decent riflescope.

Hopefully the Chinese don't try to copy the Remington 700. They already make the Red Ryder BB gun for Daisy!!

Since Roundhill now owns the rights and equipment they may put the M700 into production, the owners are hunters/shooters not investment bankers. But really, it is far too early to even speculate on the future.

Since Roundhill now owns the whole Remington company.
Roundhill Group, LLC, an investment company owned by firearms guys. Supposedly, The Roundhill Group is comprised of a group of individuals all of whom have years of experience in engineering, manufacturing and marketing both in and outside of the firearms space.
Savage Axis rifles are entry level hunting rifles.
"...came with a decent rifle scope..." Yep. No more cheap crap with a Savage Combo.

Vista Outdoor purchased the Remington name and trademarks, so Roundhill will have to license the name, similar to how the Winchester brand is licensed to Browning.

I guess we'll just have to see what develops.

A ancient Rem 600? They didn’t make them until the 1960s. I had Two 350mgs. One is on the bottom of a river above Smooth Rock, Ontario and the other is near by. My dad gave it to a Canadian friend of ours that was only maybe 50yrs ago.

That's an interesting detail of this piecemeal sale of Remington assets. Did Vista pay more for the ammunition business than Roundhill paid for the firearm business?

Wow! Such a good idea! And so obvious! (Sarcasm) I really do wish Remington and Savage would adopt that to add a much more positive safety to the action. I would be fine if it had only safe/locked and fire.

Maybe they could use a bolt head or m16 type extractor?

The sad state of Remington recently was an embarrassment. The way that brand was run into the ground should be a crime.

Well, there was a law passed about 20 years ago that was supposed to protect firearms companies from lawsuits like the one that finally torpedoed them. And the Freedom Group saddling them with all of their debt before spinning them off was bound to be hard to recover from. When you add legal expenses to the massive debt the Freedom Group left them with, it's no wonder they folded.

As far as who will make the 700, I don't know that but I would bet money it will be produced. There is just too much value in the name and reputation to allow it to die. It's a good design, much copied, with lots of aftermarket parts and lots of custom support.

It's kinda like Colt with 1911s: before about 1990, if you wanted a 1911 it was pretty sure to be a Colt. Not that they were the only one, but they were the best quality, best known and the most available. After 1995 there has been a flood of 1911s, everybody wants to produce one. First it was US makers, then Brazil, China, Europeans, and now even the Turks are getting into the market. And you have to be careful, because not all the guns sold as 1911s are really 1911s, they use proprietay parts or the dimensions are different enough to keep you from you using aftermarket 1911 parts.

I agree. It sounds like the people who bought them are polar opposites of the previous investment group that ran them into the ground. I'm hopeful one day I'll be able to buy a quality Rem 700 again without being overly concerned I'm getting a dud.
