anyone have an idea where to find recoil block for early 88 serial #29xxx is the model 100 the same block?

Ask on the Rifle and/or the Gunsmithing forum. They are sold out at Gunparts.

Apparently there are different variations of recoil block too.

Jack First Gun Parts has recoil blocks for a model 100 that they make in house, I don't know enough to know if those will interchange.
I do know that if you phone them, they may have what you need and just not have it cataloged on their web site yet.

I hate to state the obvious, but have you looked on line, specifically ebay?

Also, a lot of Win88's seem to have ended up in the NE, with a surprising number up in PA due to no autoloader rifles for deer reg. A long shot, but you might call Grice's Gunshop in Clearfield PA and see if they can get you a lead. Be persistent, and play the phone game, get a staffer that seems "plugged in". Grice's advertises as the "largest shop in PA" and they might be some help, or point you in the right direction.

Another shop in PA that has a number of M88's on display (hung on the wall, shameful, those old rifles should hunt!!!) is the "Juniata Trading Co". in Everett. Again, you might get lucky, or get on the trail of your part.

Good luck, the Win 88 is near and dear to my heart, I hope you can get yours running.

and they make magazines off the original tooling, BUT not "WIN" markings.
