Will a National AWB Be Passed During the 113th Congress Session?
The Session ends January,2015. At present ,the House is made up of 234 GOP,201 Dems. The Senate is controlled by the Democrats 54-45 and 1 Independent.
John Boehner (R) of Ohio is the House Speaker. Harry Reid (D) of Nevada is the Senate Majority Leader. The last AWB expired on September 13,2004 after 10 years. All votes and comments will be appreciated. That is it. Yes,no or undecided. The KISS formula. |

I don't see it happening unless there are major changes in the makeup of congress after the 2014 election. Given the current makeup, if any new gun control gets passed (and that's a big if) I see universal background checks being the most likely.

Only if we don't fight back.
I am amazed at the people who won't back the NRA because they aren't extreme enough and who won't donate $20 because they can buy a box of ammunition or some beer instead. Trading mis-quotes of famous people, inaccurate stories, and catchy sayings with people who aready agree with you won't accomplish anything. |

I can't see it happening. I think 1994 is still fresh enough in their memory.
After the elections in 2014? That depends on the makeup of congress at the time. I also thin Ob is smart enough to know that. |

Some seem to feel that the ballot is the big thing we have in our favor. So, if a Representative votes for this they might lose their job in the next round of elections. However, even many of the supposed pro-gun Congressmen represent States that voted for Mr. Obama who openly campaigned on gun control. So, if people voted for a gun control candidate for president or we so sure they will vote against gun control candidates in Congress.

Most people are not single issue voters. People voted for Clinton. After his '94 ban, he lost his congress. Hell a state as blue as Washington voted out the SITTING Speaker of the House.

Unlikely it will pass due to Republican control of the House. It could get through the Senate with ammendments, especially if Reid is successful in changing filibuster rules. Contacting Senators and Representatives is the best way to insure the bills defeat.

For a long time the mantra of many gun rights supporters has been, “We have The House” but I fear as you say it may simply not be enough of an important issue for most people.

I think there is a 50/50 chance AWB II may pass. I hope and pray it does not, but there are so many people out there who think Diane Feinstein just wants to ban machine guns. The term "assault weapon" is meant to confuse the non shooting voter, who generally does not pay attention to such things. The typical AR 15 in .223 is not "high powered" nor does it fire in full auto; yet many non shooters have been convinced an AR 15 in .223 can stop an elephant and fire 3,000 rounds per minute. These folks have been flimflammed by the media, politicians and groups like the Brady Campaign. We have to shine the light of truth on these matters.

They will be lucky to get a clinton style AWB. I cannt see any politicians outside major metro areas voting for DFs bill.

There's a twit in Carroll Iowa who just walked back comments exactly like Feinstein's. And he didn't walk them back so far that he wouldn't vote for the AWB if he could. But he's a statey, and isn't eligible.

This could be marketed like Obamacare. Just keep hammering them. The bill will be sent to committee.Find out who's on it and hammer them with emails, letters, tweets, and facebook.

While obviously we’ll never know Obama has always had a very strong anti-gun agenda based on his history. The NRA detailed extensively before the election what would happen if he were re-elected and many on this site accused them of fear mongering. Well, guess what? The NRA was correct.

Lots of people thought O Care was a freebie... Not saying that's what I think or even discussing it... nope off limits... But this is different in so many ways, this cannot be sold as a freebie. This is definitely a taking.... People will fight having things taken bitterly..

If Romney was a gung-ho pro-gun advocate, many probably would have overlooked some other issues to vote single-issue, but he wasn't. Nobody really knew what he thought about guns, he turned in the political breeze like a windsock. Someone may have said, "Well, Obama is probably going for gun control, but Romney hasn't said he won't either, so I'm going balance guns with the economy/health care/immigration/whatever." |

Poll should have been for Senate: Yes, and House: No way, no chance
House is still on the right side of things. |

It was not intended as a complaint. It is axiomatic that the House will never go there so the real issue is the Senate. Treating Congress as a single unit when it is bicameral is my point. Never intended it as a complaint, just an observation.

I think they will pass a watered down version of it to please both sides of the issue and then as years pass just nibble away until they have all they wanted in the first place. Americans will allow them to do it.

Incrementalism will never stop. Fabian Socialism will wait forever.
No laws passed now, will guarantee they're passed tomorrow. The only thing we can hope for is that the NY Ban goes to SCOTUS and they strike the whole thing down. If SCOTUS hadn't ruled handguns constitutional, then they'd still be saying only the militia deserves firearms. They don't shut up until the gavel is struck.
