Rifle shooting at 300 meters

Our local club reopened last Saturday with some Covid-19 related restrictions, 1/2 of the firing lines open due to distancing, max 45 minutes per shooter with reservation. Still felt great to be back at it

I took my two Swiss ordnance rifles, the Stgw 57 & 90

Military ammo

The GP11 (7.5 X 55 mm) is a great cartridge; it launches a .306 projectile weighting 174 gr at 2560 ft/s. The GP 90 is the Swiss version of the 5.56 X 45 mm NATO with a 63 gr projectile at 2989 ft/s

Here’s my shooting buddy trying out the Stgw 90

I shot 30 rounds in 10 shot strings with each weapon, best score of the day with each one

I am more of a handgun guy, but I intend to shoot more rifles this year and improve if I can get enough trigger time

Nice range! Of course, in the US surplus K-31 rifles are fairly popular. We shoot GP11 when we can find it. Good shooting.

Very cool. Nice guns, range, and equipment. What's the general location?

Thanks, but I’m not sure I fully understand the question

It’s in Switzerland on the country side. I live in an old farm transformed in a house. The range is 1/2 mile from the house.

We shoot over a soccer field and the small roads are closed and monitored during shooting sessions. The shooting lanes and barracks are on the bottom of this pic, and the 300 m target on the top. There’s also 25 and 50 m lanes.

Good groups at 300 meters !

Thanks.

I still have a long way to go compared to the best shooters around here

It’s a very long, long barrelled and heavy rifle

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_SG_510

So the recoil is actually quite mild and nicely absorbed by the mass of the gun, the moving bolt and the rubber stock.

The same cartridge in a K31 kicks a lot more

Here is Ian’s video on this rifle
